Finished JW summary of year for students!!!!!

HI everyone! I just finished making my tape of excerpt from JW movies to be played for my third grade students with and without music.

First they will be doing a hand out that goes a little like this: (remember we're talking THIRD GRADE HERE)

1. Read the excerpt from the book that you are writing music for.

. . .Meanwhile in the locker room, Harry and the rest of the team were changing into their scarlet robes. . .Harry followed Fred and George out of the locker room and, hoping his knees weren?t going to give way, walked onto the field to loud cheers. . .His heart skipped. THEN we'll watch these flicks:

ESB - Opening scene with the words scrolling.

ESB - Scene where the Imperial March is first heard.

that's always nice to hear. i'm sure the kids are either like "yay movies i know" or "yay not beethoven". but i hope later on they see the benefit of knowing who JW is.

If your students have difficulties with the word repetition, you can explain that by playing ten CD's of him.

Ok here are a couple of their replies to the questions: write what you liked about studying JW, tell me some things you know, tell me if you'd like to be a film composer too, what were your favorite things?

The ironic thing is they asked if they could use JW instead of John Williams!

I'll include misspellings and all. . .

I liked to here his music.  JW wrote the music for Harry Potter.  Hes a good composer.

John Williams is a composer and he wrote Star Wars, Hary Potter, Jerwrastic Park.  I'd like to see how he does it.

JW is a nice composer to the themes.  JW has made a lot of nice music.

Teach them advanced orchestration, harmony and counterpoint. This will turn all of them into little Williams' by the time they finish elementary school.

And when you teach them orchestration, do me a favor and not spend an entire year on solely Ravel and Debussy. Wagner and Mahler knew a thing, or two, about orchestration, too.

And, Ren, you might want to have a little chat with that student who thinks that Williams was a composer...

I've seen worse spelling by people in their thirties (at times, even me). I blame spell checkers.

Actually, I think you are doing a great thing. My music teacher in middle school thought Hank Williams Jr. was the greatest singer that ever lived. :roll:

Ray and I want you to teach us in 12th grade here, because the guy here won't let us do another John Williams show for marching band (we did one a few years ago, but Ray and I were playing second part which is no fun since we already knew at least how it should be played because we hear it all of the time) We played Indiana Jones which I knew most of the fingerings for anyway, ET which I would have memorized in two seconds, and Far And Away which again if I had first part I would have memorized in two seconds. Anyway, We asked him many times to have another one and I think as seniors we should be able to have some say in what we play. A lot of our band wanted to do a John Williams show, but he wouldn't listen and now we are doing some Latin Stuff. Which has many trumpet solos (which is good for me) but John Williams' trumpet solos would have been waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better. Please come and teach us, at least next year.....

When proof-reading papers in college I read several simillar mistakes. Good collection of them are in Richard Leeder's Anguished English. Check it out in your local library.

I want to be a composer because the music is sometimes exiteing.  And some times sad and happy.  Any kinds of moods.   I liked studying him because i like music.  And it has lots of difrent moods.  that is why I like studying him.

Because I lik his music.  Jon William was not just a coposer.  I would not like to be a film coposer because there are other thing I would like to do.  Learning about him.

I like the part on Harry Potter at the Qutige match the music fit that part.  John Williams mad lots of music.  for lots of moveies.

Jon.Willumm is a good conposer he has worked so hard he has composed a lot of movies like Harry Potter, Jaws, New< Jaerasipark, to.

I would not like to be a conposer.  I love his music.  i don't want to be a coposer because It's hard work and i get stest(??) easy.  i don't think i could handle all his work.  He's always byus.
