I loved the John Williams score, especially in its complete version :).

It'll have to keep us warm while the Matessino expansions doesn't happen (predicted date of release for The Complete John Williams Indiana Jones Collection, produced by Mike Matessino: somewhere between the 2080s and the 2120s, if human society doesn't collapse until then).

So what you're saying is, you didn't care for the movie. May I direct you to the Indiana Jones Disenchantment Thread?

I understand this thread is film specific, but round these parts do we not just say “Fill in the Blank” is Better Than Anything?  Appreciation is for Facebook, no?

We can do better than the disenchantment thread.

I agree.  I don’t think there should be any disenchantment threads.

@JTW, you and @Jurassic Shark are very much alike. Indiana Jones is your religion, yet you have both fallen from the purer faith. Your opinions are not as different as much as you pretend. Shark is only a shadowy reflection of you. lt would take only a nudge to make you like him. To push you out of the light.

Fun story: in July of 2023 I've been to the theaters more times than in any month since... Well, in a long long time. And yet I didn't catch DoD in theaters.

Firstly, I saw The Flash in a date with my recent GF. We could have seen Indy 5, sure, it was its opening week, but the fact is that I got tickets for The Flash for free :).

Then, on the next week, my brother was staying home for vacation and we decided to go to the movies. Again, we could have seen DoD... But M: I 7 had better showtimes at our local theater and, most important, the only session for DoD was dubbed in Portuguese - I don't like watching dubbed movies, only with subtitles. Too bad that meant I had to listen to Lorne Balfe's horrible score blasting through the audio system.

One week later and it was Barbenheimer time. My girlfriend invited me and a common friend to watch Barbie and, well, I couldn't say no (I had already dragged her to a DC superhero movie after all). After that, I convinced her to complete the meme and watch Oppenheimer in IMAX, which was expensive but the ticket was worth it.

By then, a month had gone since DoD came out in theaters. The movie's box office here was minuscule and with Barbie destroying records, there wasn't many showtimes left for poor Indy all around town. Also, I didn't want my dates to be exclusively seeing movies in the theater for this could make the relationship repetitive.

We broke up in late November though. It wasn't meant to be. And since I pay for D+ I waited until it arrived there (I could've seen it in torrent, but I wanted to make the money I pay for streaming worth something). The same goes for GOTG 3.

As it is, the only Indiana Jones I saw in theaters was... the very worst one, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull :(

If nothing else: the fanfictions that fix the story are bound to be pretty good.

Given how, er, promiscuous Helena was portrayed in the film, I can see where the fanfic will go. 🤮

Fixed.

It's a place to vent. They serve a need in these trying times in pop culture. :)

Good point. But these threads aren't airtight, and the disenchantment spores always get into other threads anyway.

Oh if we're gonna go that route, then I could say that based on what my sources tell me, I doubt Helena has gotten the same amount of attention that Rey had

As I have commented in other threads, it is absolutely fine. Having watched it four times, I have come to appreciate it more. I think the ending was the only true let down for me. I was entertained enough throughout. I really did like the chase through Tangiers. I would have replaced the underwater scene with something on land, and cut Boyd Holbrook out altogether.

Let's not go there. I have enough trouble reconciling JW's crush on Daisy Ridley without thinking about a Helena/Indy or Rey/Han pairing. 🙈

So for a date you decided on which movie to see based on which one was free? 😂

Okay, about the Flash free ticket: I have a friend that I met online over a decade ago. In 2017, this friend founded a website dedicated to news about superhero movies and he invited me to write there about box office.

Over the years, this website became hugely popular among Portuguese-language nerds due to their scoops, so much so that it actually attracted attention from the studios (or their local branch). They started being invited to events, premieres, etc, and WB gave them free tickets for DC movies, which my friend gives to the people who write for his site. This is how I watched Black Adam last year.

Last July, there was a huge coincidence: I started this relationship while at the same time my friend was giving away the free tickets he got from WB for The Flash. So I took the opportunity to get one ticket for myself and one for her, in an attempt to impress her ("you see, I got tickets from Warner Bros' themselves for their new movie because I write about their box office!").

And she liked the movie even though her knowledge about superhero stuff is not great!

It wasn't because of The Flash or any movie that we broke up though. We simply were incompatible. I wasn't even into her, but I tried keeping this relationship alive for six months mostly due to societal pressure that "you must be in a relationship". I really tried... But in the end there was no passion, no love, just pressure to make it work.

But I don't have any grudge against her though. She's a nice person, I hope she'll be happy.

Good for you for breaking it off. You don't want to be stuck in a loveless relationship just to make others happy.

I’ll make this one comment in this highly important thread if I may and then leave you here, JS to praise this wonderful film for all eternity.

Isn’t it ironic that the Hans Zimmer Appreciation Thread was created in large part because you - along with me and others - were mocking and criticizing HZ so much that other members had enough of you?
It’s like you don’t like your own medicine that much. Giving criticism is OK, but getting it isn’t?
Anyway, if I had known you loved Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny so much that you would create an appreciation thread for it, I wouldn’t have criticized it so much because I didn’t want to hurt your feelings. How did you put it? It’s just a film after all and us, fans of the first three films are taking it too seriously. Riiight. Thus welcome to the Indiana Jones Appreciation Thread, which wasn’t created by you at all just to say fu to everyone who disagrees with you. :)

Serious question: should I watch DoD? I was going to, then I saw the teaser trailer and it's all been downhill since then. That iso score though, I need that.

I recommend watching it.

Nope, I'm from a much better and livelier land!

I'm not from Rio though. I hate that place and I prefer living anywhere else than there.

The Dating Disenchantment Thread

Let's all discuss our last dates!

It'll be better than going on looooooong, aggressive and spiteful rants about how such a simplistic movie is like a crime against the genius of Spielberg and Lucas, a culture war indoctrination and a radical offense against the most precious memories of our childhoods that should be fought against with every post on every social media possible.

This ain't no fun. Talking about dating is fun though! And it shows that you don't spend most of your time on the internet ranting, whining and bitching because of some Lucasfilm franchises or whatever.

And you don't even need to have been on a date in order to butcher it.

I've only seen Dial of Destiny once, at a cinema when it came out. I took my 17-year old daughter to see it. She'd been indoctrinated by me watching DVDs (and later blu-rays) of the older films since she was a little kid. We both really enjoyed it.

I didn't want to make the same mistake I made with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which I didn't see at a movie theatre, thanks to listening to wider fan consensus. Like DoD, it's not a perfect movie, but when I came to see it and take it on its own terms, it was not nearly as bad as I'd been expecting.

Then again, I think there's only one truly superb Indy movie, and that's Raiders, which is a perennial, all-time fave movie of mine. The rest are all fun in their own ways, but in my book, nothing else ever came close. That said, I truly don't get why this one cratered so badly critically, both with fans and media gatekeepers.

Fantastic soundtrack, of course. I'm waiting for my blu-ray of it to arrive in the post so I can watch it again, and listen to the isolated score.

I refuse to believe you can have any bad luck dating when you are surrounded by purely Brazilian women!
