tomsmoviemadness 4,693 Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 I think that the action score of Michael Kamen's career were a tough one for me. But I think about 3 years ago things like Lethal Weapon and Die Hard clicked somehow. I think it was when I rewatched Lethal Weapon and it was tge first time that I noticed how that score was thought out. It's actually really clever and has some fantastic music.
Tom Guernsey 3,658 Posted February 5, 2024 Posted February 5, 2024 At uni, Mr Southall and I had an ongoing "feud" about composers we did and didn't like at the time. He liked John Barry and Michael Kamen, and I liked Alan Menken. Having said that, I think his dislike of Alan Menken was stronger than my dislike of the other two (I did at least like some of their scores). However, we both eventually found our way to liking those composers we'd previously disliked. Even more surprising as I could never have imagined him liking Alan Menken at the time. I used to find composers like Elliot Goldenthal hard work, but as my taste in classical music matured, so did my tolerance for more challenging film music. I used to be a bit more lukewarm on some golden age composers (although I always liked Bernard Herrmann), but grew to love them.
