You don't think seeing a Yoda and Boba Fett lookalike on a poster with the SW logo etc. will be enough? ;)

It will be enough for about $400 millions at the box office... More than that will be a little harder to get through, especially as international audiences aren't as much into Star Wars as in the US. Just look at the dreadful box office for Solo:

Well, hopefully M&G won't have to deal with a prior "failure" in close proximity like with Solo and TLJ

Question, why claim international audiences aren't as into Star Wars as the US and only highlight Solo's box office and not the international box offices of the other Disney era releases?

Because as far as we know Solo might be the best comparison for Mandalorian & Grogu than the sequels. Disney knows it, which is why they're apparently budgeting it with less than  the $200 million+ they spent for most of their blockbusters

Star Wars cinema on an austere budget?  This is not the way.

I mentioned elsewhere yesterday, my biggest concern for this movie is that it'll look like an episode of the TV show but on a bigger screen, instead of looking line an actual cinematic film. I mean the TV shows look pretty damn good, but not on the level of any of the films. At the very least they should ditch the Volume for this one, but I'm assuming they didn't...

Fun fact, apparently the term Volume, was first brought into general use in reference to Motion capture stages by James Cameron in 2002

It really is their job to make something that audiences can’t just wait a few months and watch on Disney+.

Imagine if Star Trek the Motion Picture was made on a limited budget using the same sets and costumes from TOS.

It needs to be a “Motion Picture” event, for which there is No Comparison.

How successful was TMP?

The movie was filmed in California and, like the TV series, made use of the Volume to cut down on pricey location shoots.

Anyway, it's hard to believe that Disney would chinse out for Star Wars' big return to the Big Screen.

They should scale back the budgets on the TV shows, but absolutely step up for theatrical releases.

I agree, but the franchise is in a somewhat precarious position right now. If they spend $250 million and this doesn't work, it'll be even worse.

Very.  For a budget of $44 million it brought in $139 million worldwide and broke the record for weekend box office.  And it made it possible to revive the franchise.

You could also look at it as making an investment, and trying to save a struggling franchise which they paid a boatload of money for.

No, more money doesn't always equal better quality, but people won't be excited for something that's little more than a feature-length episode of 'The Mandalorian.'

Disney has deep coffers, and there's no worry about it potentially bankrupting them, so I say: "Go BIG!"

I really hope this looks like a motion picture.

The Tv series looks very good, but for example, the spaceship fights look a little more wooden than in the films (even if the CGI looks film-quality, its the movements and scale/scope that looks a little off. )

I have to say that many of the visual effects in the show were pretty stellar. As far as ship action, I remember being impressed by the scene in 'The Passenger' where the X-wings pursue the Razor Crest through the clouds and down to the ice planet. But yeah, it needs to be next-level for the movie.

Visuals is the last thing I am worry about with this. Storytelling is number 1.

Was the storytelling really so different between the Flash Gordon serials and Star Wars? I mean, it wasn't SUPPOSED to be.

It speaks to the quality of the series that this, overall, just looks like more of the same...

It was a no-brainer to add Babu Frik, to add to the cuteness quotient...

Yeah, as Andy said, the AT-ATs look a little dodgy...

A resounding "meh" from me, but I'm pretty dead inside when it comes to new Star Wars, so am not the best person to judge.

I liked a lot of The Mandalorian.  If the movie focuses more on an adventure and less on Mandalore intrigue/lore (or spin-off crossover), it’ll be a good time.

I'm expecting some big and exciting action set pieces. They have to really up the ante so it's not accused of being just the Disney+ show projected on a big screen.

OK, that was seriously hella cool to have the whole trailer scored by Göransson's music from the show.  Would be so cool to hear this music in a movie theater!

Great!

Now, the question on everyone's mind: Are they going to stuff a Luke cameo in there?

If they're taking the everything-and-the-kitchen-sink approach to try to resuscitate the franchise, they just might.

I’m assuming the big muscular Hutt in the gladiator ring is Grakkus, who is a recurring character in the Marvel comics.  I don’t believe they killed him off, though my memory on those is fuzzy.

Based on what? The three seasons that he's spent as a babysitter? Lmao. I'm expecting more babysitting.

This could be fantastic.... I'm ready to skip the movie but accept the score into my heart!

Based on "it would be the smart thing to do to get more people in the theatres."

But I'm sure Jon Favreau understands this.

I’d rather that Zeb guy from Rebels not be in it.  One of the most unsubtle and uninteresting Filoni creations, a perversion of a classic MacQuarrie design.  But there are zillions of fans who feel the opposite.  This is the spinoff crossover bullshit that detracts from the Mando-lore being its own thing.

Tell that to Dial of Destiny... Which had the real Ford & a de-aged Ford (close enough to a deepfake!) all in one movie! ;)

Surely it can't be the first.

I enjoy Zeb. A lot. Hopefully there are a few things from his first live action appearance that get... Fixed? He didn't have the life and reality that so many Star Wars "creature" characters have had.

After Andor I've realized how little I like the post-Jedi, pre-JJ era. And of course it's the latter part that is the biggest problem. (I quite liked Heir to the Empire.) They're all screwed.

It's different (to me) than making the Prequels, where we knew the Republic would be overthrown by the Empire. That's baked into the cake. Same with Andor. We've chosen to tell the story of a doomed hero of the Rebellion.

This is more like following up Aliens with Alien3. "Oh. That happy ending of Aliens? It doesn't mean anything."

Star Wars: Everything they fought for in the OT? They piss it away in less than 30 years. Because someone (?) REALLY wants the Empire back. Who knows? Maybe it even makes sense. But I'm not interested in anything that's going on there.

As for the movie? It looks fun. I'll go see Star Wars movies that look fun. Of course if these people keep running into remnants of the Imperial military, why is it so far fetched in 20-25 years when Leia and co. try to say "The First Order is forming from remnants of the Imperial Military!"
