RIP Joe

I'll always remember how much he hated Attack of the Clones and "The Least Crusade"

Slight addendum, he thought the final cue was brilliant.

He did absolutely coin "The Least Crusade".

I missed this piece of news. Thank you for letting us know, Stefan. Joe was a force of nature and one of the most memorable members of this forum. One of my most vivid memories of this forum was reading a moving tribute to his late previous partner. That really stayed with me, even though I never got to meet the man. His online persona might have been brash and grumpy but his soul was deep and pure. And he always spoke his mind, a trait quite rarely encountered these days. He will be missed. 😞

Oh my god, that's right. I remember being so annoyed when he said stuff like "Least Crusade," because it seemed childish--never mind that I was literally a child. Now I can appreciate how funny he was, and how his unique brand of film score criticism shaped my own perspective.

His family is going to fight over his recipe book. I'm all for it!

I loved and hated him simultaneously for this :P  He shared my disinterest in Clones, but Least Crusade.... :o

He tended to not hide his views on scores, but underneath was still unconditional respect for 'John' (always his first name).

I never knew him, but seeing how much he meant to everyone here on the forum, and his love for the score to E. T., my condolences to everyone who knew and loved him.
May he rest in peace.

Very sorry to hear about his passing. I'm going through a great loss myself at the moment, so I feel for his family and loved ones.

I think I've only communicated a few times with Joe on here some years back, but it was always a joy. You could feel the passion he had for the music.

Much love and comfort to all who knew him deeply.

Is Joe the first community member (that we are aware of, at least) to pass away?  I just checked my profile to see when I joined--2007, but I was an avid follower of the site from The Phantom Menace days. I remember Joe's post from nearly the beginning.  Crazy how time flies, particularly for us "senior" members.

How cool, though, for Joe that one of his passions, John's music, was there throughout so much of his life and even new music all the way to the end.

A lot of olden times members drifted away from the boards, so it seems unlikely given the decades we’ve been around.  Joey would be the first that I know of though.

There's definitely not a lot of us left.  I don't post much at all here anymore, though I still lurk quite a bit!  I've seen a number of deaths over the years at FSM, but this is definitely the first one I've heard of here too.

Joeinar definitely had his opinions!  And they were strong.  But that is what made him great and interesting to read.  He wasn't influenced by others' opinions and thoughts, he was uniquely his own.  In later years it was always cool to see him resurface from time to time.  I wish all the best to him and his family.

They're playing E.T. at the funeral ceremony. Nice!

There won't be a dry eye in the room.

Wow this is sad to hear. He reached out to me once shortly after I joined saying that I was the only other person he knew on the forum that was from Arkansas. Or at least admitted to being from Arkansas. We never connected in real life but it’s wild to see that his memorial was hosted 10 minutes from my house.

OMG I'm in shock :(

How? Why?

My condolences to his family and other half. This is the worst news I have heard in a while. I will miss our facebook chats and arguments!

I just randomly remembered another running bit Joe had (like The Least Crusade).  Him talking about John's rejected score to The Color Purple

I'm sure I remember him saying something about "Jerry Goldsmith's rejected score from Star Wars" just to stir people up.

Sorry to hear that Joeinar has passed and my thoughts go out to his loved one's.

Reading the comments in this thread from the longer members of the board of the overall positive impact Joe had here, even those mentioning that they disagreed with him and had let's say passionate discussions, as well as newer members like myself who can't recall having direct conversations coming together to express their condolences to the loss of one of our own really shows what a beautiful community we have here in this little corner of the Internet.

is that AI generated art of people with broccoli for hair?

This is disrespectful Jay. A pillar of the community has dropped dead. Let's focus on what's important.

At this rate you'll want to honor the man by blasting Theme from Hook at the funeral.

Somewhere out there Joe is smiling.  He got all the old-timer JWFans back here to discuss how the Germanic peoples refer to cruciferous vegetables.
