Popular Post tomsmoviemadness 3,486
Abels is a comppser of immense talent. Some may only know him of his scores for Jordan Peele films but he's a fantastic classical composer who has wrotten multiple strong pieces. He has written an opera for which he won the Pulizter prize for music and many concert works (one for the great Hillary Hahn). I'm really looking forward to hearing what he does with this crumbs, Tydirium, Yavar Moradi and 2 others 3

Sounds like it's going to be traditional Star Wars orchestral with some more percussive flavours which I actually enjoyed quite a bit. Weirdly enough it reminds me a bit of James Horner's score for Aliens, I'm glad to be reminded of some older compositions for a change with these shows though! tomsmoviemadness

thestat 411
Not totally convinced by that clip - a bit synthesised perhaps? Could also still be temptracking or AI. Whatever, but Abels is able to do anything. He is like one of those great 90s composers that people like Schumacher would hire (Goldenthal!) and they were let loose to do idiosyncratic stuff and fans would have to wait to hear what it all sounds like - fucking miss those days. Abels with Peele has been a bit like that - love all the work they do together, and can't wait for Abels to do his magic with Star Wars (let's hope he gets to do it!!). Oh, and Nope has probably the best Morricone homage of all time - the melody is amazing Yavar Moradi

Popular Post Knight of Ren 991
In case anyone wants to hear Abels' score out of the show, I quickly ripped the music for the end credits of both episodes, which seem to be made out of several separate sections from the underscore of each episode. So far I caught a couple of recurring themes, I think associated with Osha and her sister respectively! I wonder if we'll get to hear some Williams' reference at some point? In case it happens it'll probably be the Force theme as it's the only logical theme in the timeline. Perhaps Yoda's theme in case he makes a cameo (which I doubt, but who knows) crocodile, Falstaft, Tydirium and 6 others 7

Manakin Skywalker 5,269
Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but the credit music seems to primarily consist of various cues from throughout the episodes edited together. There's little to no original material written for the credits depending on the episode (for example I *think* the very opening of Episode 1's credits are unique, but everything else is just music tracked from elsewhere in the episode). Which I suppose is a good thing, in case any of these cues end up being unreleased on an official album. enderdrag64 and CGCJ

Popular Post DarthDementous 1,227
In a way, I kind of got my wish where for ages I had been pining for a Star Wars show soundtrack that sounded like the video game soundtracks and I think this is it, despite Abels not composing for the video games I almost get Jedi Fallen Order by Stephen Barton and Gordy Haab vibes from those above excerpts, which is thematically appropriate. I do find this underscore to stand out a bit more than that game however which barring a few very notable exceptions had a tendency to become Star Wars wallpaper. There's something quite consistently striking about this score but in a subtle way, and I think I'm just getting a huge kick out of Prequels era material sounding like the Prequels as well It's funny and a bit sad how this show sounds more authentic to its era than Obi Wan Kenobi despite containing a theme written by Williams artus_grayboot, enderdrag64, Falstaft and 1 other 3

Trope 752
The Ascension Ceremony… Oh boy. It’s not as godawful without the actors “singing” in a completely different key over the top, but it’s still messy and awkward. Popular Post CGCJ 486
I've gone through the Volume 1 soundtrack release and put together a spreadsheet if anyone is interested in a breakdown: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MrTx5pNjbe3crpmiaf_GbjpClPfrUUdD_b0d-b86rdY/htmlview The release is by no means complete: Episode 1 is missing 02:32-03:13 (00:41), & 09:50-10:50 (01:00). Episode 2 is missing 00:01-00:43 Recap (00:42) - Unsure if tracked. Episode 3 is missing 00:01-01:00 Recap (00:59) - Unsure if tracked. That's just for what I assume are entirely missing cues, almost every included cue is incomplete/cutdown in some way, mostly due to the combining of cues cutting off openings & endings.
