Nice choice.

I was thinking they'd go to Henry Jackman again, or maybe him and Alex Belcher (they collaborated on previous movies and shows before), but Laura Karpman is a more inspired choice.

So far we know the composers for every confirmed (excluding Blade) MCU movie from now until 2027:

  • Captain America 4: Laura Karpman
  • Fantastic 4: Michael Giacchino
  • Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars: Alan Silvestri

The only exceptions are Thunderbolts and (if they ever manage to make that movie happening) Blade.

I'm reluctant about this news because Sam managed to keep his theme from his first appearance to his latest. It all depends on which Karpman they'll let cook, Marvels or What If... S01.

I think The Marvels score is great. There is a new theme that is for them as a trio.

I do feel maybe Toprak's theme could've been quotes a few times at the start of the film. But overall that score is great!

What If...? S1 was such a spectacular effort from Karpman. What she did there is nothing short of remarkable. S2 is just as good, but because we got that awful album release, we'll never really now how great it is.

Is this the first live-action movie of this ilk to be scored by a woman where the main character(s) aren't female?

I gotta say that it’s a shame that Jackman isn’t scoring this after having had some musical and thematic continuity for the Cap movies and Falcon show. I’m sure the score will be adequate but given how Cap 4 looks very much like a direct sequel to Civil War etc, Jackman would have been the right person to score it IMO!

Sure, Jackman would be good. But it's also cool to hear someone else taking a crack. Laura Karpman is quite a surprising choice for this specific movie but I fully welcome the that. She's got what it takes. I am sure she might reprise Silvestri and Jackman themes, if asked.

I hope not. Neither one of those themes are that iconic. Plus, this is Falcon not Steve Rogers. Come up with something new.

I was referring to the Falcon theme. 😆

Silvestri wrote a Falcon theme?

No, silly. Jackman did.

I think that ship has sailed since the motif was already reworked to be his Captain America theme in Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Silvestri's Captain America theme is not iconic??

After The Avengers theme it's probably the most recognizable theme from the MCU.

Like what? Who played it? Who talked about it? I don't remember any buzz about it online in 2011. And Jackman and the Russo brothers jettisoned it without a second thought.

The Avengers theme is the probably the only iconic theme in the entire MCU. It is the only theme that the public recognizes and is acknowledge in promotions and other MCU films. I don't what what is in second place (I still think Black Panther), but that is not saying much regardless.

Laura Karpman can do better.

That's not saying much, more iconic themes have met a similar fate. Imperial March anyone?

In my original post I was talking about Silvestri's Cap theme and Jackman's Falcon theme. Sorry if it wasn't clear.

The Imperial March is instantly recognizable though, even today, 40+ years after its release. Was the Captain America theme instantly recognizable even in 2011? I didn't see any evidence of that.

Let's be real.  If it's a different Captain America  then I can understand the change.

Credited to Karpman and her wife Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum

Whoa! I had no idea Karpman's wife was also a film composer. Very cool. This is the third example of film composer spouses I've ran across, after Giacchino/Datzman and William Alwyn/Doreen Carwithen... and I'm not sure the latter counts in the same way because Carwithen's film composing career pre-dated her marrying Alwyn by over a decade.

She's been a (official) co-composer on the last 2 seasons of What If and has orchestrated and conducted Karpman's scores for years.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh

I guess that's the wrong cover then lol

Disney's official website lists the album TWICE, once with each cover.  The only different is the UPC, Catalog Number, and GRID.  So perhaps different territories get different covers?

It's not as instantly likeable as her other work for Marvel, that's true. They clearly wanted more of the thriller sound that dominated the last three Cap-related projects. Civil War was the only one of these that tried to bridge that approach with a more "superhero" sound (and did that very well) and I was hoping for more if that here. Sadly, it wasn't to be. There are bits of it that I quite liked (the opening and closing tracks are really good). I will need to spend more time with it, and perhaps see the film, to decide whether I like it.

The movie has 53% on Rotten Tomatoes as of now.

This review was particularly brutal:

Brave New World is marred by regular, almost casual ineptitude — by environments as immersive as a digital golf course, by shockingly sketchy special effects, by driving scenes where the camera quivers distractingly on the dashboard. No blockbuster that cost this much should look this shoddy. We’ve seen Marvel movies paced and shot like streaming content (The Marvels leaps to mind), but this is more like the $180-million version of a bottle episode — a globe-trotting adventure that often appears to be taking place entirely within one warehouse, redressed to play indoor and outdoor locales alike.

Lots going on here.

Yeah here’s a well-written alternate rave review on the score from my FB friend (active more on the Filmtracks Scoreboard), Robert Taylor:

”Simply put, this is one of the two or three best MCU scores, full stop. I have loved Karpman's work on Ms. Marvel and The Marvels, but this (which she co-composed with Nora Kroll-Rosembaum) is on an entirely different level.

The outstanding Conspiracy Theme gives major Trevor Jones vibes in the best way possible, and the other new themes are just as engaging. Though this is mostly a straightforward orchestral work, there are several difficult, atonal cues... and the composers still manage to make them interesting for the listener.

Despite being very heavy on action, the emotional moments stand out and land beautifully. But speaking of the action... holy fucking shit, guys. The final third of the album is relentless in ways so few scores are... I found myself out of breath after certain cues. It's dense, delicious and the bass may bring down your ceiling in sections. And particularly in the last third, the composers lean into Goldenthal in a grand, awesome way, including using his trademark horn repeatedly. And just when you think it can't get any better... the choir shows up!

I loved "Brave New World" -- it's intelligent, has plenty of ideas and, even after two listens, I feel as if I've barely even scratched the surface of everything it has to offer. Highly Recommended and one of the Essential Scores of 2025.

All Hail the Queen.”

Based on what he wrote, I’m more tempted to see the film now and experience the score in context despite the mixed things I’ve heard about it (apparently Harrison Ford is really good and pretty much a co-lead, not phoning in his performance at all).

I thought Ms. Marvel was absolutely fantastic so if this is somehow even better, and actually channeling Goldenthal(!!!) at times… I’m in.

I won't be too surprised if it ends up being that she's only credited on specific prints of the movie, but I ain't gonna assume that just yet.
