Popular Post scallenger 657 Posted September 8, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 8, 2024 As kind of mentioned before in this thread, for me one of the best things to have from the bootleg (and assuming now on this release) is the "Aladar Meets The Herd" portion that follows "Raptors", whereas the album spliced in "The Carnotaur Standoff" (aka "Stand Together" on the album). While both feature the same theme, the "Aladar Meets The Herd" variation from much earlier in the film is arguably even more powerful and intense in some of its orchestration. It's also just great to hear such a powerful theme play TWICE in full, but in different ways. When it comes back for the Carnotaur climax, it feels like it is an earned moment (reflecting how it feels in the film) rather than a one-off like it is on the original album. Â For those also curious, the complete bootleg DOES fit on one CD (approx. 1 hour and 18 minutes, including the "End Credits Intro"; not sure if the rest of the credits was tracked or not.). But if they plan to have any alternates or OST versions, they will need a second disc. Â Since I can't access that post (for reasons STILL unknown), can someone perhaps leave a comment asking if it is a one or two discer? tomsmoviemadness, Yavar Moradi and Brando 3
Datameister 2,529 Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Yeah, @scallenger I remember being shocked the first time I heard the OST and it cut away from that cue. It's soooooo good. scallenger and Yavar Moradi 2
Evanus 422 Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Some other bits of the end credits are definitely unique recordings, not sure how much. The end is for sure. Â Funnily enough there seems to be some weird phasing error or something as well: Anyway I'm looking forward to hearing more about this release! scallenger 1
scallenger 657 Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Is it possible that the end credits, apart from the intro, is an assembly of alternates or different mixes of cues (which may explain that phasing you hear if it's a mix with certain instruments removed)? Parts of it still feel a bit spliced in rather than a naturally flowing piece, but I agree it has aspects of it that aren't heard elsewhere. It's strange. I know we'll maybe find out soon enough but I guess this will be my final speculation haha. Evanus 1
Evanus 422 Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Definitely possible.. Something similar happened with X-Men, I could've sworn that had a proper end credits suite but it turns out it's just a film construct! Could be the same here.
Holko 11,836 Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Peter Pan has an end credits suite made from different mixes of edited film cues and an alternate, with specifically recorded bridges I think? Could also be the case here I guess. And that one was recreated on the Intrada. Brando and HunterTech 2
HunterTech 1,582 Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 I don't know about specially recorded, but at least one track is a proper alt in it, with another pretty much being the same film mix that is on the FYC promo. Â Oh weird, according to this site, it seems they decided to swap the two versions of the last track in that end credits suite.
Popular Post igger6 1,027 Posted September 9, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 9, 2024 Can't wait for this release! As to the artwork, I believe I learned more about art direction in reverse from the abysmal Y2K-era design of nearly all the merchandise for this film than I did from anything else in my life theretofore. Here's hoping Intrada blows the whole thing up like a meteor impact and starts fresh. One representative sample below:  enderdrag64, Brando and Edmilson 3

Richard P 5,060 Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 My money's on the end credits being a full re-recorded piece - I hope it is. The opening isn't heard anywhere else, nor is the percussion opening to the fight section, nor I think is the ending transition of that section. The only bits that feel like they could come from the score itself are the Aladar & Neera theme and the Breakout section, but nothing at all responds to an audio tagger.

It's a wild way to kick off the protagonists' journey in a Disney movie. A bunch of monkeys go up into a tree so they can screw, and then they're (almost) all incinerated by a meteor shower.  I also realized the other day that since Aladar is ready to hatch at the outset of the film, his siblings presumably would have been too. Kinda changes the mental image of all those eggs being crushed. igger6, Brando, scallenger and 1 other 2 2
Popular Post Edmilson 11,393 Posted September 9, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 9, 2024 Disney movies are always darker than you think  Aladar's silblings being crushed left me slightly disturbed as a kid. But in my childhood I never realized that most of the monkeys that we just saw in a mating ritual were actually incinerated, crushed or whatever. It was only rewatching it as an adult that I was like "Oh my gosh, they killed almost all of the monkeys from the island!"  It's one of those things that can children ignore but adults don't. The last time I saw Atlantis (another childhood favorite) I was surprised with how edgy and adult the screenplay is. Brando, scallenger and Yavar Moradi 1 2
scallenger 657 Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 The timing of this release is also interesting. I doubt it was planned, but last month it was officially revealed at D23 that the Dinosaur ride at Disney World's Animal Kingdom is being replaced by a new Indiana Jones attraction. No exact closure date was set but it seems like at the end of this year or so it will be extinct. Â The ride has an interesting history. It was essentially made while the movie was being made and both kind of played off each other without being directly connected. In fact when it first opened it was called "Countdown To Extinction" until the film came out. But it only received minor cosmetic changes apart from the name change to the building's exterior when that happened, namely a big statue of Aladar. But the ride always had you going after an iguanodon in the past and pursued by a scary Carnotaurus, with designs similar to the film. A styracosaurus and brachiosaurus are also on the ride, but they have more realistic designs, however the raptor resembles the design from the film. Â I went on the ride back in 2019 for the first (and likely last) time, and from what I recall it didn't feature any score at all. The exterior of the queue definitely did have JNH's score, but the interior I believe had original music by a different composer (that I believe is on a Disney World album) that doesn't reference the film's themes as it was created for that early incarnation of the attraction before the film came out. Â Anyway, just thought the timing of the announcement for this new soundtrack edition and it's release date was a big coincidence (?). Brando 1

Popular Post igger6 1,027 Posted September 10, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 10, 2024 Tarzan is a textbook example of how to make a movie work on multiple levels with subtlety and grace. I actually think, with the benefit of hindsight, it might be the most underrated film of the Disney Renaissance. Hunchback was underrated for so long that now it's swung back around and is viewed in the Disney fandom as solid gold. (More power to it, because I love that film.) Just look at how oddly often and oddly prominently it gets referenced in other Disney media. (Prominent placements in two WDW nighttime shows in a span of threeish years?!) Tarzan, by contrast, had too much actual success ($160M domestic, I think) to make it an underdog, but it came too late to make it part of High Renaissance, if you will, of Mermaid through Lion King, so now it gets a little ignored. But in sheer filmmaking terms, it's near the top of the heap. I actually look forward to having a nice crisp new version instead of what I could find online. I would welcome an alternative if they've done it, but given the reception they usually get, they might be better off not.  I'm waaaay more interested in how it sounds and what bonus material there is.Â
Popular Post Brando 2,703 Posted September 16, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted September 16, 2024 From Roger: Intrada Announces: DINOSAUR Music by JAMES NEWTON HOWARD INTRADA ISC 508 Intrada announces a new, 2-CD expansion of James Newton Howard's beloved score to the Walt Disney animated feature Dinosaur (2000). The score was the first of three animated features Howard would score during that time for Disney, followed shortly thereafter by Atlantis and Treasure Planet. Originally released in a generous 51-minute program, this new Intrada release features the full score running some 82 minutes, featuring a wealth of new material previously only heard in the film. One of the absolute highlights is the entire opening sequence, relying primarily on music as there is no dialog. It's well over an hour of soaring themes, aggressive action music, comedic moments—everything you'd expect from a prehistoric dinosaur adventure. For this new release, Intrada was given access to the complete multi-track sessions stored at Disney, which were remixed by Chris Malone. Douglass Fake assembled the album program (one of the last projects he was able to personally produce before his passing). Fake was a huge fan of Newton Howard's work and was thrilled with the opportunity to revisit this epic work. He would have been proud of the final result. The film is a groundbreaking blend of traditional animation and computer-generated imagery. Directed by Eric Leighton and Ralph Zondag, the film follows the journey of an iguanodon named Aladar, who is raised by a family of lemurs after being orphaned. As he grows, Aladar and his adoptive family face the challenges of a changing world and struggle to survive against the backdrop of a dramatic asteroid collision. Dinosaur is notable for its innovative visual effects, which combine CGI dinosaurs with live-action backgrounds, creating a visually stunning and immersive prehistoric world.
