I’m not sure which cover I prefer. I’d rather have a brand new cover that has the Carnotaurs since I love that design, but I’m just glad this release is finally available, although what I might end up doing is waiting until Christmas since I’m hard to shop for and will need ideas for people.

The tracklist looks great! But it drives me nuts that the composer credit on the front cover isn't even centred. How do you muck that up and have nobody pick it up before going to print? It's so obviously off-centre.

Seems to be one they can't get right after the initial release, since the version of the cover on streaming isn't fully centered either, though I am having a hard time telling if they tried recreating it or if they accidentally moved some of the layers in the original project file (from removing the bottom text).

Nope, he did the program assembly only. Read the Intrada description! It was some of his last work for Intrada before he passed.

Weirdly the text is centred correctly on the flipper cover but wrong on the main cover. I suspect the text layer was just accidentally shifted to the right and somehow nobody noticed.

Personally I find the alternate cover with Aladar & the lemur to be a photoshop nightmare haha. No fault of Intrada's since they didn't design it (see here), but a shame Disney likely didn't give them any other asset that was cover-worthy. Oh well, I'm happy with the "eye design."

Yeah thats true. Looking at it now, I'm just now seeing all the details zoomed in on my laptop (compared to my phone earlier), and there's a lot more to it that I missed.

I did read the blurb. Show me where it says who mastered this album. As far as I saw, it only says that Chris remixed the score and that Doug assembled the album.

That's been an odd quirk of recent Intrada write ups, where they seem to forget to mention who did the mastering. I had to wait until scans were posted before I could be sure of if Backdraft had the same producing team as The Rock.

Some other bits of the end credits are definitely unique recordings, not sure how much. The end is for sure.

Funnily enough there seems to be some weird phasing error or something as well:

Anyway I'm looking forward to hearing more about this release!

Looks like you were right! But who could have suspected there was THREE variations made?! I think that's what has me the most curious now, and the story behind that. AFAIK the bootlegs never had the end credits, just ripped from the film.

Smh they really cut the best part out of The Egg Travels sample....not that purchasing this release hinged on that:lol:

Could be two inserts/changes and an inclusion of the full piece to present both (or different performance takes), but it would be a lovely bonus if they are two fully different compositions. But merely having the film version in good sound is fantastic - the opening always felt very tinny on my rip.

---

I always liked the original cover so I won't be bothering myself with the flipper one - it didn't look like Disney was going to be able to come up with any alt artwork of a good standard and they haven't. Photoshop horror.

Looks a nice set overall, with a few alternates and what was Across The Desert with what I think was additional vocals. I guess if they were spilling onto a second disc then including the OST was a 'might as well', although I'm assuming it's the same master as the original.

Minor gripe: they're out of Sugarland just in time! Agh! I just want to order it from somewhere that won't charge me more than the cost of the product itself to ship

This is great! Good to see everything is included. I was just hoping for the film end credits, now we're getting three! And nice that it's been remixed :lovethis:

And once again, a competent job reveals the flaws of an OK-looking cover: the colours are subtly livelier instead of washed out, the fonts consistent, the title much more legible, the top of the image is not a hacked up extension anymore.

Plus, the Disney logo without the preceding Walt just feels... wrong.

Yeah, I know it doesn't put the Walt since 2011 or 12 I think, but I still prefer the old logo.

My thoughts exactly.

I understand the labels are at the mercy of bureaucratic red tape with studios but Dinosaur was released by 'Walt Disney Pictures,' not 'Disney'. It's like putting a 20th Century Studios logo on a modern release of Alien.

Also it kinda makes not sound like the title is Disney Dinosaur....

Show me where it says Doug Fake mastered the album. If he had mastered it, why wouldn't they say "Douglass Fake assembled and mastered the album program (one of the last projects he was able to personally produce before his passing)."

...instead of, "Douglass Fake assembled the album program (one of the last projects he was able to personally produce before his passing)."

Doesn't mastering come last (after mixing)? It's the final audio step for an album, right? So clearly Doug was already too unwell to do that by the time Chris Malone finished his work remixing the score.

Do you just not read Intrada press releases? They almost never credit the mastering engineer and you and I both know that Doug did a solid majority of their mastering over the years. Unless something was produced by Matessino, it has usually been a safe bet that Doug did the master. I'm baffled that a reasonable guy like you is arguing about this, but I guess we'll find out when our CDs arrive. I certainly won't mind if Malone did the master.

I compared the samples to the leak and the OST - the main difference is that the OST is mastered pretty hot with everything blasting at you, the boot has better dynamics on paper but the mix can be a tiny bit muddy at times, and the sampes are pretty close to the boot but brighter and clearer, with the percussion especially a little more prominent in general.

Does 'multi-track sessions' clarify whether they used analog tape or digital session files? Or is that ambiguous in their wording?

As far as I know, no.

In the year 2000, the multitrack would very likely have been recorded onto analog tape.

In fact, maybe the reason this new album uses a remix from the original multitrack instead of Shawn Murphy's existing mixes from 2000 could be if the mixes were only saved back then in a digital format that isn't considered high enough quality for today's standards.

That happened with Harry Potter 1 in 2001.  The performance edits were only saved as 44.1khz files, so Mike rebuilt every single performance edit from scratch from a high res transfer of the original analog tape that held every take of every cue

Anyone get a shipping notice yet?

Posted

I sent a message to Intrada in Facebook, and they told me that they will start shipping next week because they had to fix a small issue.

That issue could be the text in the cover that is not centered?

I'd be curious to know too... better they realize an issue now before than after the fact and have to repress and reissue replacements. I can commend them for that.

Exactly. In fact, the cover was updated with the fix. :D

I haven't received any shipping notice yet. :( Does anyone know how shipping works for Mexico? Does it take long for them to update the status?

Posted

Yep, the composed and '... soundtrack' credit have been centred. They've also very slightly zoomed in on the whole thing, only noticeable if you switch between the two rapidly.

I wonder if they decided to get replacement booklets printed or they were just very late in getting this pressed in the first place. No shipping for me yet, but I did order it way after the announcement.

Posted

Mine too, along with Sugarland.

Hopefully I might get it within a week or so.

Posted

I'm almost somewhat happy that this was delayed because now I don't feel like I wasted time waiting for the LLL release which is blocked from the usual normal ordering.

Posted

I stand corrected. Surprising, since I thought mastering is (I thought) the last thing to happen and Chris Malone had to be brought in because Doug was ill.

Well to be fair, there is no "Tech Talk" section to the liner notes, so all I know is who was credited with what.
