Sounds good, Robin - a proper throwback to 80s and 90s orchestral adventure stylings. Alas, I rarely gravitate towards those kinds of scores anymore (unless they are from the actual period, when I was), but I continue to be impressed whenever new composers tap into it. It happens now and then.

One of the traps that many younger composers fall into when trying to accomplish a pastiche sound like this, is that they forget about hummable THEMES, and instead provide more anonymous sounds and textures that sound kinda similar. But you seem have very identifiable themes running through it, which is admirable. Kudos to you, and to Mikael and Moviescore Media for putting it out there. Sounds like a dream task.

Congratulations! It's clear from listening that a lot of hard work went into this. I hope you get more opportunities to write in this style for future projects!

Thanks for your kind words! Really appreciated!

Do I see a fellow fan of The Rocketeer?

You do see a fan of a lot of 80s and 90s scores :)

You may be sure, Mr. Hoffmann, that we appreciate both the direction you took your project in and the highly competent execution of music in this style. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Thank you so much for your kind words. If you do enjoy the soundtrack, please make sure to share it as much as you can, as in the internet age attention is the biggest factor and small releases like that can easily be lost in the cracks.

This sounds great! My kind of music. I'd have bought the album on Amazon(.de), but apparently one cannot purchase it there. Are there any plans to make it available there (digitally)? I'd prefer an (internationally available) CD release, of course ;-)

Here's an amazon link that should give you a buying option: https://www.amazon.com/music/player/albums/B0DGHP1MLB?marketplaceId=ATVPDKIKX0DER&musicTerritory=US&ref=dm_sh_hSsULZXCthsjFM27i96yDC5od

There also is a CD available: https://wall.cdclick-europe.com/projects/treasure-trackers-original-motion-picture-soundtrack
This one will hopefully soon be also available via Amazon, but for now it's only available at the link above.

It's up on Amazon.de now, and I bought it. Thanks. Looking forward to listening to it properly once I have the time :-)

Nice! May I ask if this scene was temp tracked with Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra?

Thank you! It was actually not, but I decided that I wanted to bring that sort of vibe into the scene :)

This is really really nice. I haven't listened to the whole album, but I will certainly do so. Of course this cue is a send-off to JW's scherzo kind of writing, but it's done with great taste to my ears.

It's a very peculiar moment in time in the film/tv industry for film composers who grew up wanting to write this kind of scoring, i.e. largely acoustic, orchestral and theme-driven. I guess that whoever is keen (and capable) to do so must chase any type project or collaborator who truly understands it and welcomes it. As far as I know, a lot of current filmmakers and producers feel that this approach is too old style to get the contemporary audience engaged. Sometimes a product that harkens back to that era of orchestral ear-candy à la Williams/Horner pops out of the blue, but these are very rare circumstances nowadays and often limited to the nostalgia factor. A Los Angeles-based studio musician friend of mine told me recently that there is a drought of work for them at the moment, as a lot of movie scoring is being done overseas and whatever is left is often striped and "unmusical".

Anyway, state-of-the-union discussions apart,  I hope this will help Robin to get more work to write in this style!

Thanks alot! And I do hope that this gives me the opportunity to work on more of these things, too, as it is just so much fun for everybody.

There's a lot to be said about the other points you made from my end but a forum is not the right format for this. But there are several factors at play in Hollywood that all have an influence on the state that it currently is in. But you could open that up to a way larger viewpoint than just film scores. A lot has to do with the craft gatekeeping that doesn't exist in the industry anymore and the pros and cons that come with it.

Cool! It sounded similar while being its own thing. Definitely a highlight of 2024.

I love it. And the recording quality is superb. I would never have guessed it was performed in a concert hall rather than a studio.

Thank you, yes, I love that room. I like this sound way more than a tight studio space sound. But it is a mixed used facility. It's a hybrid beteween concert hall and recording studio.

You're right, I lent myself a tad too much into state-of-the-industry type of talk.

I am currently listening to the album and it's indeed a warm love letter to JW and the symphonic scoring style of a bygone era.

Thank you! Yes that was the plan.

And also, there is one last behind the scenes video:
