The desert island is equipped with a video player somehow with unlimited electricity for your enjoyment between spearfishing and long walks along the beach while you sip on a coconut. Some lunatic comes along with a sadistic choice. You can only watch one trilogy of Spielberg movies for the rest of your life. Choose wisely.

Odd grouping, but the first, I guess.

The first one by far.

I've never seen Always but it can't be THAT bad.

RP1 I saw only once in theaters and then never again, The Post almost put me to sleep and I have no desire of seeing WSS.

One way a person can approach this thread is: if you choose the first one, you get three movies with John Williams scores. On the second option, only one movie of the trilogy (and probably the least entertaining out of the three) has a John Williams score.

Ready Player One, The Post, West Side Story

I haven't seen Ready Player One or West Side Story --- so atleast my first viewing of this 'trilogy' will be somewhat exciting, as i'm watching two 'new' Spielberg movies for the first time.

First option is tough to pass up with TLW, but Always and Hook are bores to me.

Besides...The Post has some good drama build up that Spielberg always makes re-watches exciting.

Truly sadistic, though.

It'd be way worse if he had replaced any of the movies in the second trilogy for The BFG :crymore:

Lol

Yo gruesome, make the names public. I want to know the other sick person that chose option 2 with me

Given that slow death isn’t an option, I’d have to folly for the first one.

Is there any booze?

To the score from Always?

It's a no-brainer.

If that is the choice, I will have to live without movies.

I haven't seen The Post. I HATE Hook. I LOVE Always. RP1 and WSS were OK.

I guess I'll be watching Always a lot. And I like the trailer sequence in JP2.

So the best strategy to win the game is to bore the natives to death with The Post, right?

They're a civilized people. If they see Always, Hook and TLW in your collection, they'll leave you alone.

I made the decision purely on music.

READY PLAYER ONE was not scored by JW. THE POST is an ok film, and I can't remember a damn thing about the score. WEST SIDE STORY I was impressed with, but, really, see: THE POST.

Of course all six films will be in 4K UHD, with Dolby Atmos, and have isolated scores, with alternates and outtakes, otherwise you can go fuck yourself.

John Dutton sets the rules here. And if he says you're getting a bare-bones DVD release without even a making-of featurette—but maybe has a trailer—then that shall be your fate...

Justin has not set any parameters as to how the films are presented.

choose to watch mine in 4K UHD.

If Justin wants to watch his on VHS, on a Sony Trinitron, then, that's up to him.

It's his fantasy, but it's my method.

That's not great. We could at least watch the making-ofs and interviews and such instead of the actual movies.

You will be provided with copies that reflect reality. Hook has always gotten a stellar transfer on digital formats and it's usually put out fairly quickly and TLW got a UHD as well, so those will be in 4K. Special Features? The JP movies got some, but Hook gets a trailer if anything.

However, Spielberg and Universal seem to despise Always and it was only available with a letterbox DVD for a long time while I had an HDTV broadcast saved on my DVR. There will be no 4K of this movie because it's never been done, nor will there be special features. You get a barebones Blu-ray disc that was slapped into a box set like an afterthought, just like me.

Then I choose to follow the lunatic who presented us with this dilemma back to his hut—where I'll raid his movie collection, and go back to watch 'Jaws' while sipping on that coconut.

He's also got a nice selection of Hammer Horror.

There’s 7 of us now!

The only way this comparison makes sense to me:

Always and The Post are the forgotten Christmas release dramas with the Oscar-winning male and female leads

Ready Player One and Hook are the special effects movies about arrested development

West Side Story and The Lost World: Jurassic Park are the unnecessary sequel/remake where if nothing else, the man knows how to throw the camera around

I love his WSS and the rest are almost even so option 2. Plus it's better trolling to vote for modern Spielberg on JWFan. I'd miss Hook, though.

It's a lot simpler than that. Option 1 contains three of my favorite movies which have been unfairly maligned for decades. Option 2 is boring overproduced contemporary dreck and a video game demo I'd never want to see again, if at all.
