This place is great indeed. Sometimes wish I had more time to throw my thoughts here. Other times, I feel I should just listen to music instead of read opinions about it.  But that’s any message board. It’s amazing I get to talk with cool people round the world who love this shit too, don’t think I’m weird, and will tolerate my stupid posts as well as my more thoughtful ones.

I used to love this place. Ive come back to it for some reason. I logged nack in out of a sense of obligation after Joe died. But now its more about the PM threads than the main board. Which is being kept spotless and Immaculate nowadays.

 

JWfan used to be the online substitution of a small pub with a healthy body of regulars.

 

Now it's more of a Wetherspoon's.

On the other hand, there are topics of a political nature that do impact what we talk about here, such as movies and other media, and it's become the pink elephant in the room that we're not allowed to discuss, for fear it might ruffle a few feathers.

Some of us just bypass all that kid gloves shite by sticking to the large PM threads instead. A lot of the regular John Williams and movies chat has also moved to those private groups now. I know that's where I post my own thoughts on stuff I've heard and watched, as opposed to making those posts in the vanilla forum like I always used to.

It's nice being able to do that on a public forum with people you know. There's no point in doing it on social media websites because you're essentially just soapboxing into thin air. Their so-called "algorithms" ensure your comments are buried in a sea of noise, and whomever your interactions are with, it's a near certainty that they'll be a once-off. So whenever someone tells you that "there are plenty of other places to discuss that stuff", they're either lying or they're unaware of how futile it is whenever you explore other sites, especially when you've spent 20 years forming relationships with people in one place and you all get to know each other's ticks. I still believe Jay and Ricard were ordered by Invision Community to sanitise the forums for whatever reason, or else they'd be forever banned from using that company's services.

This is one of the strangest theories I have ever read.  Invision in no way gives the tiniest crap what we do with their software and nobody there has any clue who we are.  We're a tiny drop in their bucket

 

The no politics rule is pretty standard in communities. We're a film score forum.  There's like 5 people who whine and moan that politics aren't allowed and hundreds that are happy it's not.  It's not that complicated.
