Sorry?

These are the Black Friday titles?

Where is the John Williams one that we were waiting? :(

There was never a Williams title we were waiting for, that we knew about.

WOW! JP3! That's my #1 grail delivered!

There's a sample of Tiny Pecking Pteranodons and I don't think whatever percussion is in the film is here, but tbh, having the entire score in Mike's proper remastered sound, is wonderful (and also tbh, I'm not sure that perc plays brilliantly on its own anyway).

Spidey 2 also super cool - definitely picking that up too.

If they somehow made Gladiator happen too, this would be my personal greatest release period in history, but that's my ultimate pipe dream. Thank you LLL so much for these!

At what point did anybody say there was a Williams title expected from LLL after Sugarland?

I just thought every LLL Black Friday has a John Williams. :P Wrongly it seems..

I guess now this is out of the bag, my hopes are on Intrada!

Nice! Godfather 2 and two much-coveted early 2000s holy grails for many fans including myself.

But I think those aren't their only releases for this year though...? Maybe another John Williams surprise score we don't know about yet?

Of course if it's not possible to do a JW for BF this year is completely understandable.

I think he's referring to Maurizio's comment in that last episode where he kind of says that it won't be long before they talked again. That's how I interpreted it, in any case. Maybe Disney will surprise us still.

Intrada has a Williams title on the list though.

Incredible!!!!!  Probably wishful thinking but Elfman approving the Young and Debney material maybe a good omen for the possibility of a release of Young’s score?

I had the same thought! Fingers crossed!!!!!

I was literally looking at my inbox when the email came in, and I had to read it several times to believe it was BF.

Then I scrolled past The Godfather and saw the word Jurassic and knew this was gonna be good...

Also great that we get to sneak in before the Christmas mail rush. Perhaps I could keep Spidey 2 back as a present. No way in hell am I waiting till 25th Dec to hear JP ///.

The AFM fees appear to be the only obstacle now. If Mike and co. can negotiate to get them pushed back another few years it'd no doubt become a reality.

The doubt is: did Mike or anyone else ever tried to negotiate these AFM fees and push them back for a few years? Or did he never even approached AFM to discuss that? And if he didn't, why? Is it because he's sure it'd be a losing battle?

It's in the interest of everyone involved to be able to release these post-2005 scores.

I'm really really happy for Spidey 2!

Never seen or heard JP3 and these busy as hell action samples so far are not doing much for me, but the calmes ones are nice, some cool takes on JW's themes.

I love Rota's Godfather but don't like the new theme and blander sound for 2, didn't like it much on Hollywood Sound or in the film which I also didn't like much, and the samples here didn't convince me otherwise.

I'm still not even sure why AFM fees are an issue. I'd love for Mike or someone else in the industry to address the questions I was asking in that other thread a couple years ago

Here is exactly what Mike said about this:

For AFM recordings made before July 3, 2005, NO reuse needs to be paid to the musicians at all, provided a) that it’s for a physical format release with a 5000 unit maximum, and b) that the musicians list is published, preferably in the packaging. For recordings made after that date, whatever the musicians were paid to record the score for the film has to be paid to them again, 100%. That’s why it’s called “reuse”. They were paid to play music for sync purposes, but an album is a new use.

So, hypothetically, if 120 people were paid $360,000 to record the music for the film (musicians, orchestrators, copyists, at an average of $3K a person), then a label would have to pay that exact same amount to AFM in order to put out an expanded album. That makes it impossible to consider even before you get to licensing, publishing, production and manufacturing.

The 2005 date was established in 2015 and applied to recordings going back 10 years prior, but unfortunately it was not a “sliding” date as it really should have been.

Yeah my plan now is to wait for it to be, ahem, "out", and judge the full thing.

Can't you just listen to the album or the Academy promo?

The main reason this was needed is that the OST is so heavily arranged and omits a lot, and the promo sounds like shit and and had a load of alternate material in places.

If I want to judge the score for what it is, I want to listen to the score itself.
