So?

In the recent reboot games, Croft was 21+

Obviously we don't know what her age is supposed to be in this series, but I would assume it's somewhere mid to late twenties (based on Turner being 28) or very early thirties.

Fun fact, Sophie Turner is apparently the same age as the character was supposed to be in the original game

At least she’s in MI8!

Do we know that for certain?

I would assume she is, but you never know

It should be noted, although I don't care, that I like blondes with dark eyebrows, but this is not in any way on-model for Lara.

JWfan needs to sex itself up instead of pretending to be classy and square.

I watched it once and it was so boring and mediocre, I couldn't bear watching the second one.

I like the second one better.

It's a fun adventure.

Plus it's got Alan Silvestri doing some cool bits.

And listen to "Pandora's Box"!

Anyone else likes the 2001 Tomb Raider movie? It's crap but I have fond childhood memories of it.

Sure. Although it was more a "in the side vision"-type of thing at the time. I was 23 and studied at uni, and was kinda fancy-schmansy about only seeing arthouse flicks. But I liked it better when I saw it up again a few years later.

I have no interest in this but Sydney Sweeney would have been ideal if she wasn't actually quite offbeat with her role choices.

I feel like people only say this because she has the boobs. She doesn't strike me as having the bad ass action star persona to me.

Yet another reboot from people who seemingly have no understanding of what made the source material so popular in the first place.

Sophie Turner's a fine actress. But she's not Lara Croft. Put Sydney Sweeney in this, give it a tongue in cheek, offbeat vibe, with a showrunner and writers who respect the source material, and you've 100% got a pop culture hit. As it is, this is 100% a flop. Amazon, once again, shows why they should stick to selling toasters.

I will say this. I think they should just have Jonathan Tropper make the show. He did Warrior and Banshee. Imagine those shows with Lara Croft. Tons of action, charismatic characters, sex, and fun. I feel like if they go that direction, the show would be a massive hit.

The one thing I don't agree with you still is Sydney Sweeney. I don't think she is British action cool, and she doesn't have the face of Croft. I think they could get a capable and sexy British actress to play this.

On the other hand, this is the problem with movie fans. Fans wants service, not pushing the envelope. You need writers and directors to do something different sometimes, or every action film would be the same.

Why don't they just make another with Alicia Vikander?

I didn't exactly love that first one, but she is lovely and the movie finished right at the point where TRUE Tomb Raiding could begin:

With those iconic twin pistols that were so very conspicuously absent from the previous three games (WHY, WHY WHY?!?).

Probably because it's impractical?

I'm expecting this to be an adaptation either of or closer in style to the modern games, which is a very different Lara

Isn't there also going to be a new game at some point as well?

It's a game.

Being practical isn't exactly a requirement.

I fear so too.

But they already did that with Vikander.

Why not aim for something a bit closer to the source again?

With Lara as a badass adventurer right from the start?

Supposedly, maybe?

There was some art of an intermediate character design a while back.

But that didn't come with a proper confirmation of an upcoming game, nor that Lara might actually look like that in the future.

It is if you are going for a more grounded survival type game.

Perhaps some kind of middle ground between the two?

Which is why I don't see the logic in prejudging anything until we even know *what* kind of movie this is going to be. For all we know whatsherface is perfect casting for the kind of character they've made for the movie

"Character they've made for the movie".

You've inadvertently swerved into the heart of the problem. I mean, by this standard, Amy Schumer could be right for the role if she fits the "character they made for the movie".

How about the character that made her famous in the first place? Nah, can't do that. That would be actually giving people what they want to see, rather than what Amazon wants to give them.
