John Barry - MOONRAKER - New Expanded and Remastered 2-CD from La-La Land Records

The previously unreleased music for the shuttle hijack is the highlight.

I also will include the Glassworks music and the shuttle launch to my playlist.

But, the two versions of the JB theme are uninspired.

Hope some of the tech wizards here

can do score restore for a couple of sequences

- freefall

- Globes Destroyed

and any others that are suitable.

Thanks in advance

( Maybe Thor will tackle this😜?)

I love Neil's post - it reflects a lot of my obsession with Batman and Total Recall - the formative experiences are so important for all our experiences

I like Barry but not a fan of Bond music (ie 'the Bond music', the silhouettes and guitars), totally love when Barry and Arnold go outside of the Bond score field. Not sure about Moonraker. Action was not Barry's gift.

That's OK. This is not an action score. :)

This is a great double bill with The Black Hole, BTW.

Moonraker is Barry’s least Bond (silhouettes and guitars, as you put it) Bond score — listen to the sound clips.

Yavar

It has some truly awesome cues

" Corinne Put Down" and " Flight Into Space" are among the best things JB ever composed.

The music for the hijack sequence shows off his skill at creating suspense and mystery in just a few bars of music .

Those are just about the only compelling scenes in the entire wretched film

It's a good score! But it sounds a bit more like 80s Barry. The sharpness and energy and twang of his earlier Bond scores (up through and including The Man With the Golden Gun) is largely missing, in favor of more of an epic sweeping sound. I do like that it has some powerful moments of Space Awe. Yes, there's still some Bond-iness to it of course (no doubt more so in complete form than on the shitty old half hour album); I'm just saying that of all Barry's scores for Bond, this has the least of his iconic Bond sound IMO. The following score Octopussy has a lot of sweeping music in it but it feels relatively like a return to form (probably spurred to include more of the Norman Bond theme for example, since it was competing with Never Say Never Again which couldn't use it).

I'm so happy about this release. This one is my John Barry holy grail. I've been waiting for it since I was fourteen years old, so thank you to everyone at LaLaLand for making it happen. You've made me very, very happy and I can't wait to listen to this.

In their place I'd have put it at the end of the last track as a "hidden track". They've done that before with some things.

I suppose the CEOT3K doorbell is not in this set, isnt it?

I doubt we’ll get that answer until someone gets the CD. But they did include the Magnificent Seven cue so maybe they added the CE3K.

I didn’t hear / find it on my first listen.

Last time I watched the movie it sounded very very close to The Conversation, I'd have believed someone if they confirmed they just tracked the notes and edited them closer to each other.

Neil S. Bulk says

Neil were you invited or have plans to do any podcast interviews regarding the albums you produced this year? The under-the-hood stories about how these albums came together are always interesting.

Yes, I've been approached by some people. Maybe next year.

Then again... was there ever a thought to include the 5 notes from CE3K as a 5 seconds bonus clip (maybe even hidden)?

It was never a consideration.

This score sounds nothing like The Conversation - an all piano score.

Bruce, a friend of mine is not clear how to interpret your post.

Are you complaining that the CE3K bit is not on the album, because you were under the impression it was advertised as being complete?

Or are you happy the CE3K bit is not on the album, and are poking fun at people who want it to be there?

Thank you.
