Not sure what your intention was in making that comment but it really comes off as dicky and very agressive.

People do what they want with their things, and I'm pretty sure he put them on the CARPET with a lot of care.

Carpet dust on discs. Great.

Broken cases and loose discs have never been an issue with Intrada releases, funnily enough. The only time it happened was clearly a postal issue because I bought it second hand.

Only that they have.

This set actually looks pretty nice. The front cover works well in person, the colour's carried through well in the booklet, booklet front looks good, clever choice to move the OST tracklist inside behind the OST disc to make the back cover tracklist less cramped and more legible.

I sort of wish disc 3 was the black disc so the first two would be different shades of brown but that’s the nittiest of picks.

The full score has made me realize what a well-crafted album we got back in 2000. Both presentations work really well for this score.

(Unlike Amistad where I never pull out the original album anymore.)

While we are all waiting for the (hopefully) inevitable amazing Legacy of John Williams podcast with Mike Matessino about this release, I thought some folks might like to know that the late Douglass Fake talked with The Goldsmith Odyssey in some detail about Intrada's expansion of The Patriot over a year ago, and we got it "on tape"!

Hmm, interesting that Doug is able to just casually rattle off that Born On The Fourth Of July is a 55-minute score (and thus wouldn’t be a 3-disc expansion)…

Say, @Holko @Chewy @Meredith McKay @crumbs: any interest in doing some score restore videos for this score? Seems like it’s ripe for that treatment.

i wouldnt mind an oliver stone 3cd set though (all three scores would fit in one cd each, wouldnt them?)

As much as we would like a Boxed set featuring all 3 Oliver Stone films the likelihood of it happening is remote due to different studios and licenses all over the place.

Warner Bros archives is off limits for now for BOTFOJ and JFK.

But NIXON would be possible via Sony.

I'm intrigued that it has 90 minutes.

Only JFK is WB. Born On The Fourth Of July is Universal, so it should still be fair game. Nixon has a Disney-owned studio and record label, so it would presumably need to be released by Intrada.

Oh ok. So NIXON stands the chance first and hopefully Intrada can do both Nixon and BOTFOJ.

I had plans but @Chewy called dibs. So hands off, everyone else! :puh:

Can you remind me why it's off limits?

Because they're idiots and are closed to the specialty labels for now.

I haven't listened to this podcast but isn't the complete score bootleg 78 minutes?

Or has that been padded out with unofficial recordings?

At the very least, the bootleg includes his re-recorded 3-cue suite from the Boston Pops album “Music for Stage and Screen” that totals just over 14 minutes. Hilarious that these tracks would be referred to as “unofficial” when included on a bootleg!!

Waitaminute..now this gives a thought. Matessino could actually reuse that suite again as a coda on its expansion much like the new REIVERS album but it all depends on how it comes together logistically.

The bootleg of BotFoJ may also feature one or more Silva re-recordings. And of course it has the dialogue excerpt tacked on the end that was absolutely unnecessary and likely added for “shock value”.

That was possible for Reivers because Sony Music has the soundtrack license for the film score, and the Boston Pops suite is also owned by Sony Music

BO4J is a Universal film with Universal Music album rights.  It's highly unlikely Sony Music would license out these tracks for another studio's project.

Fun fact: In the early stages of development for Hook way back in 2016, we came up with many proposed tracklists before we know what songs existed in Sony's vaults (and if they'd be approved for release or not).  Some of these configurations included the 5-track Hook suite from Williams on Williams.  It became apparent very soon that there was no room for the 5-track suite at all!  But it was something we only contemplating because Sony Music had the Hook score rights.

Thank god it didnt became a 4Cd set. I want my kidneys where they are!

I meant that if they had wanted to release it with the suite at any cost, after more music was found….hipothethically.

Is it just me, or is the 'wow' factor of this expansion missing? I must admit, I am not particularly a big fan of this work. However, based on my recollection, the original soundtrack (OST) seems more effective. It is a very long OST (72 minutes, if I remember correctly?). After listening to the complete score presentation, I feel a strong urge to revisit the original album to better appreciate its qualities.

I don't know... I will probably need to listen to the complete score a bit more to appreciate it. I tried to read the latest posts in this thread to see if there was any discussion about the relevance of the complete score compared to the OST, but I only came across the usual nonsense, focusing more on the booklet and the box set's packaging. Classic JWfan, as always.

Because this is the thread for that, not the music discussion thread. And it's not nonsense.

Sometimes here, things are so compartmentalized that it feels like being inside the mind of an autistic person.

If you feel like that, you probably should have yourself checked.
