It shared and illustrated many of the opinions on ost albums-as-a-form, and what I call the "toy-maker" aspect of music, and particularly film music sans film, that I have been formulating the past couple of years. Cheers, Schilkeman! I haven't thought about that in years. It was an important piece for me, a kind of test run for what would later be my thesis. Googling it now, I see that "Part 3" seems to be missing, for some reason. I could only find "Part 1" and "Part 2".

What did get into my head was all the expansions I bought that I didn't enjoy listening to. Reasoning that all out led me back to OSTs. All my expansions are gone. I don't regret it. Lady Dimitrescu 9,297
An OST only needs to be about 15 minutes anyway.

Popular Post Mr. Hooper 4,181
Agree that OSTs are generally a more enjoyable listening experience, but there are often gems on the expansions that are worth having and adding to your own curated playlist. I've never staunchly belonged to one camp or the other. Indeed, why not enjoy the best of both? mrbellamy, GerateWohl and Andy

Richard P 4,502
Unexpected one for me in 'prefer OST': RotS I have a strong nostalgic attachment to the OST and there are really only ten minutes or so of music I'd add to make it a much stronger album for me. I'd also retain both the OST and film versions of the opening battle - the OST flows better but it does omit some interesting material. bollemanneke 3,813
I think the only case where I prefer the OST for JW is Jaws and possibly ET.
