Probably someone from the House of Giacchino, except Lord Michael.

This will be a great opportunity for Prince Mick to prove himself as worthy to be the Heir of the Gia crown.

Posted

I think both Datzman with Inside Out 2 and Mick with Skeleton Crew and The Penguin have proven themselves more than worthy, so I hope one of them takes this gig so they can continue with Giacchino's themes from the first movie, which in my opinion is often an overlooked Gia score!

His giant ant movie must be facing delays since he keeps scoring movies

Of all the sequel projects not to handball off to his wife or kids, he chooses this?

Maybe he was also disappointed with his score for the first one and wants to make amends.

BTW, this is confirmed news.  Director Jared Bush revealed it at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on Friday.

(Funnily the article twice says the film is coming out in 2026 when its actually coming out this year)

Will this thing make Inside Out 2 money (1.7 billion) or "just" Moana 2 money (1.06 billion)?

Probably somewhere in between, it will all depend on the marketing

That trailer was a lot of fun.

That therapy scene was esoecially funny.

Looks like a fun time, I think it will do very well. Partly based on the box offoce of the first.

It also looks like Giacchino can again have some fun with this. Wonder how much he will stick to his sound from the first one.

Apart from the suite, I never found the score to Zootopia particular engaging. But I love the movie. Let's hope Giacchino has more room to play this time.

I anticipate this will be a step up from the original. If only because he is not overbooked like he used to back in the days.

In the end though, one good lengthy suite would be more than enough for me. These are what I tend to revisit from his works in general anyway.

He didn't identify the people in the pic that he posted?

LTR producer Yvett Merino, co-director Jared Bush, composer Michael Giacchino, co-director Byron Howard (I think).

Is this earlier than usual to finish scoring? It's more than 2 months until the release date.

Pretty late actually, especially for animated film

Giacchino did an interview about his scoring. He refers to this as possibly the most insane score he's ever written.

Quote

During a recent panel at Walt Disney Animation Studios, Giacchino reflected on his journey with the company, his philosophy of scoring, and why this sequel demanded an “insane" musical approach.

For Giacchino, music has never been about simply filling in the background. “If you and I aren’t hand-in-hand telling the same story," he recalled Brad Bird warning him on The Incredibles, “the audience is going to start thinking things we don’t want them to think."

Yeah, the audience might think the music’s good!

Puns ahoy!

It is a Giacchino soundtrack, after all

Posted

Releases tomorrow.

It's a lot of fun, bit all over the place at times, but a lot of fun! It did put a smile on my face multiple times while listening just because of the sheer wackiness of it sometimes.

Feels like Giacchino had a blast making this.

Posted

It's quite different from the first film's score. In places it feels a lot like Pemberton's Bad Guys score.

Giacchino's scores this year have been unexpected in a certain way - they might feel scattered in place, but I think the key thing is he's having fun with them.

Honestly, I think this is actually a pretty good score overall. A bit of a tonal whiplash if you play the first and then come on to this but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Posted

I've been listening to this in the background and enjoying it (probably more than the first, though that's not a high bar). Other than the main theme I didn't notice a huge number of call-backs to the first movie, but I haven't paid close attention yet.

Posted

I keep forgetting this is out and I need to listen to it!

Posted

Put this on for the first time this morning - it's definitely an easier listen than the first thanks to more action music and the new low woodwind theme.

Posted

I've listened to this a couple of times now, and I really like it. I was at first a bit disappointed that aside from the main theme, the other themes from the first film are either only briefly referenced or completely omitted. I haven't watched the film yet so I wonder if perhaps they appear there but were left off the album.

But this score works really great as a listening experience if you like the wild and eclectic variety of styles Giacchino throws in there. I must say some of the more parody tracks in the middle don't do much for me but I like the second half a lot, and I think the two new themes are really well used, most notably the sneaky woodwind theme I assume is for the snake character. I love the many different variations this theme goes through in the suite!

Just started first listen.  The Shakira song wasn't horrible?

Score is immediately super fun!

You like the song or not?

As i read-translate it, you mean: Oh the shakira song is not that bad (unlike the song from the first film)?

but it made me doubt if you may mean “isnt the shakira song horrible?”

Funny thing about Try Everything is that it wasn't even written for the film or for Shakira in the first place. It was written and performed by Fifth Harmony and meant to be included in their 2013 debut EP but was dropped, before Disney picked it up and had Shakira re-record the vocals for Zootopia.

I meant that I pressed play on the new album, realized oh, there's a pop song before the score starts, listened to it anyway, then went oh, this isn't that bad

Posted

Wow, first listen and I LOVED this album!

The score is SO MUCH FUN for so much of the runtime here.  It sounds like the most fun Giacchino's had in a long time, or ever.

Towards the end of the album the music settles down to finish out, and then the 10 minute (!) suite track is a cool summary of things.

Wow, was not expecting this at all!  I already want to listen to it again, and I never listen to the Zootopia 1 score at all, honestly.

Ok, that was my first impresion. So cool, i still understand the subtleties of english :)

I like the song from the first film. I'm oddly dissapointed giacchino had nothing to do with it (like in COCO songs), and i never understood why Shakira did not make a spanish version of it.
