Naïve Old Fart 12,301 Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Farewell to a towering giant of popular music. He was a musical genius. It's a very sad day. Bespin Copilot, Loert, BrotherSound and 2 others 2 3
mrbellamy 7,766 Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Rarely get shivers from a vocal like the first time I ever heard that at 0:23 Naïve Old Fart and bruce marshall 1 1

Naïve Old Fart 12,301 Posted June 11 Author Posted June 11 Fair enough. I know that these compilations are quite personal. Mine would also include "In My Room", "Caroline, No", and "The Warmth Of The Sun". Bespin Copilot 1
Quintus 6,012 Posted June 11 Posted June 11 I only really gained appreciation for them in the last couple of years, after watching Big Love of all things, which was superb. God Only Knows is the show's title tune, and I remember actively not liking that track all through my younger inexperienced years/ears. But hearing it play every time an episode began, it really sank in; the ethereal overlapping harmonies and the offbeat snare - surely the best snare placement in any song ever. RIP.
Loert 3,071 Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Pet Sounds...a masterful album. What a sad loss! I really recommend Matt Williamson's series on the Beach Boys for a historical review:
bruce marshall 1,959 Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Best movie moment? I choose " All Summer Long" for the finale of AMERICAN GRAFFITI. Im sure many movies feature their songs
Thor 9,327 Posted June 11 Posted June 11 The Beach Boys plays a HUGE part in my life, one of my favourite bands. I’m totally bummed now. bruce marshall 1
Marian Schedenig 10,962 Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Damn. I know less than half the Beach Boys's output less than half as well as I would like and they deserve. I've long been meaning to rectify that. RIP. Since it hasn't been singled out yet, I get to post this one:

Bespin Copilot 10,201 Posted June 12 Posted June 12 Of course for the purists, here's the 'Mono Edition' of my Top 10 (for the pre-1967 period). According to Wikipedia, the album "Wild Honey" (1967), their thirteenth studio album, was the last to be mixed in mono. However, on Spotify, only the stereo version is available...
