Not that I'm not glad and grateful to see him in any living condition at all at his ripe age, but the wheelchair is a depressing sight. I thought it might just be a precaution in public surroundings, but in his own home....

I don't want to speculate on his condition, as I literally have no clue. But besides looking like he doesn't ever realize a picture is being taken, he seems to look pretty good. The only difference to me is that age looks like its catching up to him finally, and he looks more like 75 now instead of 93!

I feel like this was a bit of a show boating/ show off picture, though I don't think she realized how precious this kind of thing is for us.

They could have told him they were taking a picture

It's apparently a longer road to recovery than previously thought—since the notion of him returning to Berlin was entertained up until the month before the concerts.

No, I won't let it go. :)

Joking aside, it's always good to see him.

After seeing this photo, I have to say that I'm pretty sure he won't be working on Spielberg's new film. I'm 93% sure.

I'm going to say something that a lot of JWfaners do not want to hear: I don't think he's got long.

The end is near. I am sure John Williams will die in this century.

I mean depending on your definition of "not long" you are not really saying anything. ;)

He looks like they just told him film music is as good as classical music.

Nah Williams is just perplexed by the gender nonconforming haircuts.

You're free to think so.

Was just thinking that he may be the biological father...

I'm really confused now. Will someone tell me what's going on?

The newest thing that we see is that his wheelchair has a head support, which we haven't seen before when he has appeared with wheelchair in the past few months.  It is hard to speculate what his ailment is, but 93.5 is astonishing for a male.  We are just blessed every day that he is here.

93 is an astonishing age for anyone.

I'll save my astonishment for a 99-year-old, dancing Dick Van Dyke.

But 93 is still very good innings.

Shock new theory: 93-year old man may not have many years left.

In other news: Pope may not be Protestant; Bears suspected of not using indoor lavatories.

Is it just me or does Williams have that look on his face of "who are these people and what are they doing in my house?!".

It may just be a "I don't want to be photographed, but I'll grin and bear it" face.

Yeah I was going to mention this too. Dude is going to be 100 in December, I think Williams will make it. If I were to GUESS since some people are so negative, is that a battery in a pacemaker needs to be changed every ten years or so. The recovery from that might be slower than it used to be. OR might be like what happened to Pierre Boulez, he simply fell. I think the story went Boulez fell getting out of the shower or something and busted his arm when he was in his mid-80's and it took a really long time for him to recover.

That being said, I also wonder if besides what seems like not a great experience with a decade of Disney (still think it was a complete waste of his time), and his recent comment (still think it was not in context), that he probably isn't really interested in doing a full length film anyway, and seems perfectly content writing concerti and whatever else concert music, which I and probably Miguel are perfectly fine with.

 Probably I would think.

She was well raised: no airs and graces regarding supposedly separate music genres…

She's awesome.  That's her at the podium as I warm up.  She had a very interesting life and was in a documentary about her I'll dig up if anyone is interested.  Fabulous musician and friend of contemporary music.  She loves big loud brass too.  I was overplaying something and never was told that was too much.

I was very happy when she was announced as the chief conductor of the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, and later when she was named their honorary conductor at the end of her tenure (Bruckner Orchester Linz's Markus Poschner is taking over).

Sadly, she didn't bring as much contemporary American music to Vienna as I was hoping - or rather, mostly the mainstream stuff (maybe because that's too far off the local mainstream already). Adams, sure, but no Daugherty or Williams.
