karelm 3,239 Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Happy birthday Maestro! Lots of very fine and interesting works from you over an illustrious career. His early works were serial then switched in the 1970's after going through a collage phase (mixing styles and eras) then landing on his mature overtly traditional and religious style. Lots of composers went through a similar transformation like Penderecki (similarly in the 1970's), one could argue Philip Glass too. I haven't heard anything of his pre-minimalism but he mentioned minimalism was a reaction to the avante guarde of the 1960's.
bruce marshall 1,959 Posted September 12 Posted September 12 I hope he got paid for all the times his music was used in films Fortunately, most of the films were after the Soviet Union collapsed so he probably did. But, before then composers were SOL , at least as far as being paid by American producers
Mr. Hooper 7,205 Posted October 10 Posted October 10 This guy can't stand that Williams is more popular, so throws some shade at him... https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/music/articles/musical-miracles-abound-arvo-p-133816738.html
bruce marshall 1,959 Posted October 10 Posted October 10 I first heard his music on radio shows like " Hearts of Space" which programmed New Age/ Space/ Ambient music. Eno and Part!
LiterallyIconic 1,562 Posted October 10 Posted October 10 I like Part. It's like, what if Gregorian chant was actually interesting to listen to? Good stuff.
