Popular Post BobaMike 39 Posted September 11 Popular Post Posted September 11 The Kennedy Center has a John Williams/ Steven Spielberg concert tonight thru Sat. I'm going Saturday. The NSO always does a great job with film music. Here is what will be played, according to the program. Jaws Theme Sugarland Express CE3K suite March from 1941 Hymn to the Fallen Schindler's List Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra Theme from Jurassic Park ---intermission Flight to Neverland from hook Victor's Tale from The Terminal The Duel from Tintin Dartmoor, 1913 from Warhorse With Malice Towards None from Lincoln Adventures on Earth from Et and I would bet the encore would be the Raiders March Not a bad playlist! Raiders of the SoundtrArk, Jay, BB-8 and 5 others 8
Mr. Hooper 7,340 Posted September 12 Posted September 12 A nice mix, and a conscious avoidance of anything 'Star Wars'—unless the encore happens to be 'Imperial March.' BB-8 1
BobaMike 39 Posted September 12 Author Posted September 12 It's only Spielberg films, so I doubt any Star Wars will be played. BB-8 1

pete 1,284 Posted September 12 Posted September 12 I didn’t know The Kennedy Center still held concerts! The Sugarland Express piece? The arrangement from The Spielberg/Williams collaboration with a flute instead of harmonica? BB-8 1

Antonb 124 Posted September 12 Posted September 12 I’m so envious. Us in the uk seem to get very little concerts like these unless you live in London.
gfiinn 3 Posted September 12 Posted September 12 I was at this concert last night and it was a great time. Encore was Raiders March of course and it was great seeing the individual soloists give it their all for each piece ( Schindlers, Viktors Tale etc). I could tell the brass was running ragged near the end though. There were a few cracked notes "With Malice Towards None" by the first trumpet solo but overall a great show. pete 1
kingtolkien 49 Posted September 12 Posted September 12 These selections are wonderful but I would make some changes Tourists on the menu from Jaws CE3K suite March from 1941 Parade of the slave children Remembrances from Schindler’s list Keeping up with the Joneses Belly of the steel beast Theme from Lost world Visitor in San Diego from the lost world ---intermission The ultimate war from Hook Love theme from The Terminal The Duel from Tintin Dartmoor, 1913 from Warhorse The Post suite Adventures on Earth from Et
geom_00 116 Posted September 12 Posted September 12 I saw in a facebook post, that this was labeled as a Concert of Stephen Spielberg movies...

Just took this screenshot a second ago. Some great comments! "How do you spell it wrong when it's correct in the picture?"

I'm curious about the quite rarely performed Sugarland Express. Was it the flute version posted in the video above from one of Williams' concerts in Japan?
Laserschwert 664 Posted September 13 Posted September 13 To be fair, I attended a Williams/Spielberg concert of the LSO, and the encore was Star Wars. Guess that's what you had to get when it's the LSO.

Popular Post BobaMike 39 Posted September 18 Author Popular Post Posted September 18 This was a really fun concert. The NSO sounded great, and hearing Sugarland Express was a treat. It was the same version from the Spielberg-Williams Collaboration album. The conductor said he emailed John Williams (which I assume means his agent/manager) to ask permission to play it. A few random thoughts: I don't think I've ever heard 1941 live before, but it was really fun to watch them play as well as listen to. Jurassic Park was the suite with the wonderful T-Rex ending. Hook/Flight to Neverland was a great way to start the 2nd half. CE3K's ending still gives me goosebumps. The program notes were a bit out of date, as it referenced BFG as his most recent score....then the conductor, when talking about Tintin, said it was Williams' only animated score. My only other complaint was that the Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra is the new version, which is not a patch on the original, imho. The NSO does a really good job of programming film music, and even though it's a pain to drive into DC, I always try and attend as many as possible. Jay, pete and ST-321 3
igger6 1,024 Posted September 25 Posted September 25 What’s the T. rex ending version of the JP suite again?

The concert version of "Theme From Jurassic Park" is not the same thing as the OST track called that; It's mostly end credits material, with the very end taken from the end of "T-Rex Rescue and Finale" In the film that bit scores the T-Rex fending off the last of the raptors and roaring as the "When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth" banner falls down past him igger6 1
The Score Cleaner 8,904 Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Basically the TLW credits version ending IIRC
Jay 44,378 Posted October 7 Posted October 7 They simply recording the 1993 concert arrangement at the 1997 TLW sessions and put it on the OST album and in the film's end credits, yeah.
