The first film was released after 400 episodes had aired over 18 seasons.

This second film will release after another 420 episodes have aired over 20 more seasons.

I don't see how this won't end up being Hans, especially after almost 10 years of Bleeding Fingers taking over the series...

We'll see !

20 years after the first movie.

I don't think I have even seen a Simpsons movie after they moved to Disney+ or whatever. I'm not even sure what is the state of the show these days.

I thought the work on the first movie was done mostly by Henry Jackman, James Dooley, Lorne Balfe and others because Zimmer was busy with Pirates 3?

I really love the score for the Simpsons Movie. The sort of alt-take on the main theme being more identifiable as a 'Homer' theme, and Bart gets a wonderfully tender idea you wouldn't expect for his character, but works very well. Equally good is Lisa's theme.

Bring it on! As long as Marge dies, that voice actress is REALLY past her prime.

She's also literally the first person you see and hear in this trailer for James L. Brooks' new movie:

Poor Julie Kavner! Over the years her voice naturally went from Marge, to Patty/Selma, to Jacqueline Bouvier.

It had a great run.  The Simpsons owes us nothing.  It’s time.

Is the first movie any good? I've only seen the first 9 or 10 seasons of the show.

I thought the quality of the show began to dip in 1995 and stopped watching altogether in 2000, so I'd say it's well past time!

I like it, it's incredibly funny. One of those movies I don't get tired of watching because it's so goddamn fun.

And Atli Örvarsson !!

The weirdest part is that, at the same time, these same guys were ALSO working on Pirates 3!

Must've been some agitated times at RC. I imagine that they and Zimmer split the work, so while one person is working on a cue from At World's End, the other is on Simpsons, then they changed, correct?

Why stop at just Marge, just nuke the whole town.

The first half hour is a blast. It's really a firework. But then it slows down a lot. But it's still ok. Definitely worth watching.

You stay away from Homer!

First movie's pretty funny, and it also provided the show with an opportunity to 'get off the stage' with something approaching dignity ... which it didn't take. The decline in the writing since, along with the jarring replacement of voice actors (and the audibly evident ageing of some of the long-term ones) don't make this second one an appealing prospect.

I can’t remember the last time I watched the Simpsons (so many people say that now that I wonder who is watching it?!) either but I do recall enjoying the first movie.

I do enjoy Hans & Co’s score (and would lay money on them doing the sequel… which I kinda guess it is) but always felt bad for Alf Clausen not getting to do it (and frankly they treated him terribly in the end…) or, if they needed a big name movie composer how Danny Elfman didn’t get the gig. He couldn’t have written a better theme for the show… I mean he probably never needed to work again after that and it remains one of the best tv themes of all time… and would have almost certainly done a great job for the movie.

I'm fairly sure I stopped watching the show after the movie came out, which would be 18 years ago. Even at that point, I remember chatter around whether the movie represented the finale, by and large.

I suppose the studio makes so much money from it worldwide that it must be worth continuing, and paying the fortune the voice actors must be receiving.

The score for the film is functional, but it falls into that category for me where virtually anyone could've scored it - it doesn't have the prominence nor thematic catalog that makes viewers notice it. I have the 'Lead... Not To Read' track in my playlist.

Something never sat right with me about what happened with Clausen, not only being snubbed from the movie but the way he was unceremoniously dumped from the TV series.

Agreed. I appreciate that he wasn’t entirely honest about having help with writing but frankly if he was paying for that out of his own pocket and the music was still what was wanted I don’t see how it’s any different from Bleeding Fingers (still a terrible name… I mean really awful) or Sparks and Shadows or whoever writes all of John Williams’ scores these days.*

*Jokes you should only make on JWFan. If at all.

I had the same feeling on the show when I’ve seen it recently. It’s almost amusing that most of its relevance relate to “predicting” current political events 20 years ago. Love it or hate it but South Park has largely managed to maintain its standards over a not dissimilar timeframe despite being written and made by relatively only a handful of people and for almost no money (I’m ignoring the dump truck of gold they gave Matt and Trey in this calculation).

Looks like I finally stopped watching midway through season 29.  Season 37 just began this past weekend!

I saw the movie but don't remember anything about it.

I have fond memories of the first what, 9 or 10 seasons, so many classic moments!  If the show had ended there, wow, it would be looked upon as an incredible masterpiece of television that went out on the top of its game.  But now every year that goes buy the percentage of its run that was good gets smaller and smaller.

I think in the end, history will be kind to its longevity without dwelling on its decline.

I hope so. Decline or not, I still love it so much for the greatness of its classic episodes. And actually, even though the popular opinion is that the show was only good for 8/9 seasons, then it became horrible, I think that some episodes from the 2000s through the mid 2010s are pretty decent.

Simpsons was always a must-watch on Fox from the time in premiered until about the year 2000. I want to say around the time they killed off Flanders’ wife. You could possibly pinpoint the beginning of the decline when Phil Hartman was killed.

Yup. Maude Flanders was the moment for me.

I was in 5th great when it came, out so was the perfect age for it at the time.  I was basically Bart's age.  The show was a must-watch all throughout middle school and high school for me, so that's the first 8 seasons.

Once I was away at college (seasons 9-12), I managed to keep up with the new episodes still, but enjoyed the reruns of old episodes via syndication every night at 7:00 more.  I'm sure there were great episodes throughout all these seasons but definitely not as many as the first 8 seasons.

After college I kept watching the new episodes but it was hardly a priority; They'd pile up on my TiVo (remember that?) until I binged a bunch when had nothing else to watch.  And then at some point I just... stopped.

Yeah ... I mean, to me 'King-Size Homer' is one of the best SITCOM episodes ever, never mind one of the best Simpsons eps. Every joke 'lands', and they're all brilliant.
