Hello,

I'm not trying to start any rumors or sound like a rumor-seeker.   Just wondering if anyone has any information on how he's doing?

He's currently scouring Prokofiev manuscripts for motifs he can copy 😂

By now you would think he'd have memorized the entirety of Prokofiev...

And rest assured that there's a whole qualified medical team on hand right here to comment on any evolution in his health.

That's reassuring.

We know from Tim Greiving's book launch Zoom on September 1 or 2, that Williams was composing that day.

And on September 13, Mark Graham said he was working with Williams on that day, and implied his work with him was continuing.

I think that's all that is known publicly.

In other words, we can infer that Williams is currently healthy and hasn't stopped writing music, which I think he'll do until his last breath. So... good news for all involved, us Williams fans included!

Ah, I've never watched 'Coronation Street' (Collective gasp from all of Britain!), and I'm afraid that I wouldn't know a "Ta Duck" if I was pissing on one. :)

Hello,

John Williams, at 93, recently premiered his first piano concerto and continues to guest conduct, though he has expressed a desire to focus more on concert works, moving away from traditional film scoring after composing for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and The Fabelmans. He remains one of the most awarded composers ever, with a record number of Oscar nominations.

Recent Work & Career Transition
  • First Piano Concerto:
In July 2025, at age 93, Williams premiered his first-ever piano concerto, Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, at Tanglewood with pianist Emanuel Ax.

  • Shift to Concert Music:
Williams has stated he wishes to focus on writing concert works rather than film scores, citing the demanding deadlines of movie production.

  • Farewell to Film:
His latest film scores were for the semi-autobiographical film The Fabelmans and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Awards & Recognition
  • Most Nominated Living Person:
With 54 nominations, he holds the record for the most Oscar nominations by any living person, tied for second all-time with Walt Disney.

  • Key Awards:
He is a five-time Oscar winner, a four-time Golden Globe winner, a recipient of the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award, and an honorary knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.

Other Notable Activities
  • Guest Conducting:
He has guest conducted many American orchestras, sometimes appearing with Steven Spielberg and donating fees to musicians' pension funds.

  • Philanthropy:
He is known for his extensive charitable work, including funding concert hall construction and commissioning sculptures for other important figures at the Tanglewood music center.

  • Biography:
A biography, John Williams: A Composer's Life, was published by Oxford University Press in September 2025.

The info we currently need: Whether JW has finally been confirmed to score Spielberg's UFO movie.

Interestingly there's no music credits whatsoever on the IMDB page. Those usually start appearing when the recording sessions are imminent.

Considering the film wrapped production over 4 months ago, you'd think the score isn't far off being recorded. So the lack of information regarding Williams' involvement probably means he's sitting this one out, but who knows.

Or maybe it means that he’s doing it and they will have a big reveal about it? I thought this for Rebirth, which ended up not being true, but I am hopeless and won’t learn. It has to be Williams!

I think that if (and that a big if) Williams was to score Spielberg's next movie, it would have to be with an EXTREMELY luxurious schedule (likely), scoring a locked cut (unlikely), and with Spielberg bringing his A game (who knows). I personally don't think he'll ever be scoring a movie again, and that's okay. I'm thinking they wouldn't announce anything until things are done anyway. Just in case.

I could be totally wrong, but I was actually under the impression Spielberg usually locks picture before scoring unless heavy effects work is needed.

Spielberg doesn't actually have a great track record overall about messing with the score after the fact, be that due to late edits or tracked over preferences.

Sorry if I'm repeating myself, but I really wish John Williams' last score wouldn't be Star Wars or an Indiana Jones.🤞
