I'm nervous about any listing that doesn't even say which orchestra is performing..... I've had both good and bad experiences with that. I'm still very excited about this though! How amazing. (potentially!!)

Probably an orchestra assembled for a concert or theatre series. Freelancers. Lotta Ukrainian musicians make a living like that now

It looks like an old theatre. At least better than a large stadium or hockey arena, but does the stage shell allow for natural acoustics without resorting to amplification? Because my home theatre sounds better than any large amplified venue.

Ticket booked! Would have made more sense for this to be at the Royal Albert which is in Kensington, still excited non the less. Haven't been to the Apollo since 06 for Tenacious D on their Pick Of Destiny tour, but recall it sounding great. Curious how they'll do the songs or if any score will be restored (in particular the opening of The Home Run). Being my favourite Williams score, with LLLRs Ultimate edition, getting to see it on the big screen for the first time last year at the Prince Charles cinema just off Leicester Square and now to see it performed live to picture is nothing short of feeling absolutely spoiled these last couple of years!

Oh yes, definitely better than large arena. But I had a chance to go to a couple of live score events there and was not terribly impressed. But it is a massive John Williams score performed by a symphony orchestra. It is tempting regardless.

 

I'm supposed to be working that weekend but maybe I can go, will see.

Music prep is being done by the usual trusted team so it's safe on that end. However, Hook is orchestrated for a very large orchestra and some cues also call for unorthodox instrumentation like ocarinas, accordion and baritone oboes; there is also both male and female choir in some cues, so it will be seen how much of that will be either revoiced to other instruments, synth or just cut out.

 

Unknown yet is if anyone took care of adding music that was cut from the film (highly unlikely, imho).

There's probably an option to perform this without the choir and vocals. Which will be on the films soundmix instead.

The choir was not recorded separately from the orchestra on this score (except for the short vocal overlay in "From Mermaids to Lost Boys (Film Version)")

 

So they'd have to dig up the multitracks and see how clean the choir is on those channels of it if they wanted to do that, and it wouldn't be fully clean, they would be bleedthrough.

They can so this though. As an orchestra you can do Jurassic Park LTP with or without the choral parts. I saw ROTJ live yo picture without choir, but it had it on the dialogue and effects track

A choirless Hook would be tricky. I was going to suggest the brass get You Are The Pan, but then that splendid choral part in Farewell Neverland came to mind. I suppose a solo violin or flute could do it.

Eventim does mostly Theatre concerts in this country. Themed media concerts, not always with a credited orchestra.

 

Adjust your expectations a bit, maybe.

I tried a quick test:

 

You Are The Pan (Film Version) - Chorus only

You Are The Pan (Film Version) - Orchestra only

 

A bit of bleed-through from the violins with the chorus, but it seems AI separation could yield a usable result for one of these performances, especially when you remember a small bit of bleed-through would be swallowed up by the live orchestra.

I'd suggest getting the ocarina player's understudy, but every time that guy performs the score, the sun starts going up and down, stone blocks start appearing out of nowhere, and a horse gallops into the concert hall!  And don't even get me started about the rainclouds that appear during the final act!

It was, and I was there!

 

Was a fantastic performance! Rightly got a standing ovation that went on for nearly ten minutes! Got goosebumps everytime a cue started up, no restored music though, the orchestra even played "Take Me Out To the Ball Game". Caroline Goodall was there and spoke a little at the start, she mentioned hearing a rumor that a Hook musical was in the works!

Honestly going into London at this time of year wasn't bad. Public transport didn't seem any worse than the rest of the year, getting into the venue was easy (despite myself having problems/getting stressed about it beforehand). It was no worse than going to the Royal Albert for LTPs in October for the shows I've been to there. The only other thing is the financial side, but the tickets went up in October so plenty of time to save/account for spending in that regard

No, the earlier ones did. Later, they shared recordings from people in the audience, the only two I remember was part of The Home Run and part of The End of Hook. Not that it matters now, the story is gone, but videos should be popping up soon.
