I only found out about the stream 15 minutes after it started, and apparently I'd already missed the most important bit…

Another cameo, perhaps?

Goldsmith got a speaking part the second time. Just saying…

(JW's SW cameo was a non-speaking part, right? I don't recall…)

No surprise at all, but it is wonderful all the same to have official confirmation that Maestro John Williams is doing the score for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film and their 30th feature film collaboration.

JW’s “cameo” as a Borg was awful, although far from the low point of that POS movie and trilogy. He didn’t even get a doll made. Pathetic considering they’ve made everyone else including the extra running with an ice cream maker and Jabba’s fat six-breasted dancer. Goldsmith had far superior cameos.

He is obviously composing the score for the film.

Fantastic news!

It's just been confirmed at the Juilliard John Williams event that he's "working on" the movie!

Damian Woetzel, president of The Juilliard School, said:

"The catalyst (for this event) is John Williams, who is in Los Angeles, doing what he does—he is working with Steven Spielberg on the next movie. And that is something to be happy about."

Excellent news, of course, but kind of funny that it came in the form of a fairly off-hand remark from Woetzel. I don't think @Maestro or Britell even commented on it.

This also means another recording/CD for the collection!

Hopefully better handled than Dial of Destiny was...🤦🏻‍♂️

He got UFOs right the first time; each new one is worse than the last. I guess it can't actually be worse than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull though, right?

I hope you're talking about Spielberg and not Williams

Thank you,  Debbie Downer.

Sheesh 🙄

Truly fantastic news! :woop:

So it seems likely that the sketches Mark Graham was proofing last week were, in fact, for Spielberg's film.

If true...could he even be finished writing it at this point?

Unexpected Film Opportunity

"The film thing was a job to do, or an opportunity to accept."

'Dial of Destiny' was a job to do, but one more collaboration with Spielberg in the director's chair was an opportunity to accept.

I don’t think Woetzel was supposed to break the news, but now the cat is out of the bag and everyone should be cheerful.

So it seems this was already known in the closer/better informed fan circles?

Great news indeed.

It certainly sounds like it was known to anyone who works in the industry or has contacts - but that would apply to many assignments and happenings.

So, JW's final film score won't be The Fabelmans afer all. My thinking prior had been that he's capable of the basic writing workload, but no one should be subjecting a 93-year old to the normal stress and schedule of a movie.

I am so happy about this. I hope he composes the whole score and not have work by others for different parts of the film where variations of themes will be sufficient. And come on give the man his final Oscar.
