The composer and occasional director is returning to score Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Giacchino delivered the memorable scores for the first trio of Tom Holland movies – 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, and 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home – all of which were directed by Jon Watts.

Destin Daniel Cretton is directing this Brand New Day, which will wrap its principal photography on Dec. 16. Cretton, Giacchino and the post-production team will then have half a year to get the movie into shape for a July 31, 2026 release.

Nice. I didn't care for the score to Shang-Chi (and actually, what happened to that composer?) and Giacchino's Marvel stuff, specifically Homecoming, Far from Home and F4, are perhaps his finest work over the last decade.

I didn't exactly love First Steps on the initial listen, but it had enough spark to it that it leaves me reasonably confident that Gia isn't quite burned out with the superheroics.

 

I'd certainly love it if his cure theme from NWH returned, since it would work really well as the Spidey responsibility theme going forward.

I'm glad someone loves his Spidey Scores as well, I feel like there's only a handful of people that love 'em in this forum.

 

Phase 6 has 4 movies (as far as we know) and they're scored By Alan Silvestri and Michael Giacchino, gotta love it, very excited!

Was disappointed by NWH's score, but Gia was overbooked around that time and his recent scores have been a lot better. I was hoping for new blood but this can still work.

I love them as well, especially Far From Home, which might be one of the best Giacchino scores ever. Homecoming is also great and a lot of fun. NWH has its moments but overall is a bit uninspired.

Considering we're getting a marvel movie with a returning cast, seasoned writers (of the previous spidey films) and a director who's also experienced with Marvel, instead of rando unknowns, and considering the plot ideas I can gather from the trailer, they have the chance to absolutely nail this and finally bring marvel out of it's movie rut. Please let this be good. Let it be big, epic, and emotionally soul crushing.

It's just an artistic choice, that has been done many times in the comics, but never in live action, it's a cool shot, you don't have to look that deep in to it!

There's so much fighting about this shot online lol.

1. It's a movie, we have shots in movies where cameras are flying and phasing through glass windows for goodness sakes. Clearly real world constraints don't have to be considered to make a shot that says what you want it to say.
2. This shot makes more sense than the Iron Man helmet cam shots where you're in the helmet and yet can see his entire face. But both are fine.

Guess the trailer looks interesting. Hopefully they do have a proper story, given it's still a pretty heavy back pedal from where the first two flicks were taking things, but Puny Parker is miserable, and that's all that matters I suppose.

 

That being said: this now either has the potential to be the best Gia Spidey score, or the worst. There's definitely a lot more bite he could bring to this potentially more bleak tone, but with it being his fourth entry, I wouldn't put it past him to just spam the overdone emotional theme from NWH for the whole duration.

 

Of course, I am forgetting that Gia has a poor track record in actually utilizing returning themes outside the main one, so it might just get a suspiciously similar substitute instead.

Yeah - one of my niggles with the No Way Home score is that while he brings back the Mysterio and MJ themes from Far From Home, he only uses them once each and they don't sound that different from how they sounded in Far From Home.  Meanwhile he puts the returning main theme from Homecoming through a bunch of new guises, though I don't really like the "epic choir" version much.  I miss the "young" sounding variants from Homecoming that he never did again in Far From Home or No Way Home

Well Spider-Man is maturing, why would he use the young version again? That version is too 'lighthearted' now for him, he's lost so much in these movies, it wouldn't make sense!

Not sure if it's legally possible (or cheaplly possible), seeing how Marvel avoided Homecoming footage in Endgame promos, I guess there's something in their Sony agreement that Marvel would rather avoid.

Trailer 2 will be released in less than 2 hours, and if it's the same that leaked in bad quality a couple of weeks ago then it will be the first time Marvel and Sony use Gia's Spidey theme in an Official Trailer, which is great, they've only done it with Avengers and Fantastic Four trailers! (Obviously it will be a trailerized version of the theme)

The action, cinematography and direction are clearly better than the other movies with Holland, but I'm not really vibing with what the plot looks like, even more because of Hulk, Ned and MJ returning, plus the way they are trying to hide the main villain(s).

 

I just think that the movie could easily feel underveloped and a bit predicable If they don't play their cards right.

This was the best Spider-Man trailer ever, that was incredible. They teased the action, a little bit of the story and cinematography without spoiling anything. That's how it should be, and hearing gia's spidey theme makes me smile, granted very much trailerized but I don't care that was good, they're respecting his work!

The final card of the trailer says that the soundtrack will be released by Milan AND Mutant

 

 

The first three films’ scores were released by Sony Classical (digital and physical), so it’s a bit strange they are changing now.  Of course, Sony bought Milan in 2019 so maybe they are starting to shuffle all their soundtracks to there?  I thought they had Madison Gate for soundtracks though so it’s all kinda weird.

 

Mutant must just be for physical copies – hopefully CD and vinyl and just not vinyl!

I talked to someone i know on a music discord server who was at one of the recording sessions for Brand New Day, he's a big fan of films and scores in General, and he's had the chance to work with marvel on Set Designs, makeup, clothes and other projects outside of marvel as well. I've met him on a French movie set, and he even came to watch me play Achilles in the Iliade (granted small theatre production but still). I asked him about the recording session and how it was, and he answered with,

 

"Yeah it was incredible, they only recorded a handful of cues but hearing the orchestra live was surreal. From what i saw on the sheets, the score is very very long, big orchestral. There was over 60 cues, written down, and unfortunately for most of them, i had NO IDEA in what scene they were supposed to take place, working titles, there was only a handful of them that I remember, like "Brand New Day Suite" but apparently that's just a working title as well. I missed Alan Silvestri unfortunately, I know you're a huge fan, but I asked a couple of questions to Michael that you'd be very pleased to know the answers to!" 

 

Then he told me what Gia said, and it was everything that i wanted to know 😂. But yeah pretty cool, very excited for the score and Film!

I don't have that answer to be honest, but I think based on the story it will be a more mature score, the Hulk action scenebwill probably sound like Far From Home and the A Walk on the City cue from F4, since it has that "monster" vibe. I'm curious if he changes the structure of Spider-Man's suite, since the theme would start in a playful tone and then get big. Now that he's an adult he might change it a little, and make it larger than life from the beginning!
