Gurkensalat 383 Posted January 15 Posted January 15 I don´t know if this is worth a thread of its own, but Disney has decided to replace the mostly ambient soundtrack of the Star Wars land in Disneyland with music from the original films by Williams: https://www.disneytouristblog.com/john-williams-score-star-wars-galaxys-edge/ I know that this has been a criticism from the beginning and many have been disappointed by the lack of JW music in those fantastic theme park lands, while others supported the immersion of the exclusive use of sounds and diagetic music. Williams composed a theme in 2019 as we all know, and that is only used in parts of the 2 major attractions in the land, and in form of a etheral arrangement, probably by William Ross, by Randy Kerber in the entrance tunnels. I liked the sound design when I visited WDW last year, but of course some Williams would be nice, too (I got a healthy dose of that instead at Universal in the Jurassic Park, E.T. and Harry Potter areas). The Change is part of a major timeline switch in GE at Disneyland, while it is not clear, if and when it will occur in WDW, too. Since I plan to visit Disneyland in 2027, I hope that I will be able to experience the new approach and compare it to the old. Chen G., Yavar Moradi and crumbs 2 1
crumbs 15,933 Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Only music from the first 6 films though, even though Galaxy's Edge is "set" during the sequel trilogy. Can we assume this is yet another victim of the AFM's reuse fees?
Tallguy 7,260 Posted January 15 Posted January 15 While I certainly appreciate the immersion of GE (it's like Irving Kershner directed it and "dialed out" the score!) I do remember the delight of walking around Tomorrowland during Star Wars... Days? Months? Season? The time before GE opened. They played the OT (and PT?) music constantly. I would think I would have gotten tired of it. But I also think I would get tired of Disneyland and that hasn't happened either. We're going to Disney World in Floriday next year. I hope these changes make it there by then. Alas they won't be there for my trip in March.
Popular Post Datameister 2,576 Posted January 15 Popular Post Posted January 15 @crumbs only the area near Rise of the Resistance will be set in ST times. The rest of the land is getting a permanent rewind back to the OT era. @Tallguy this change seems to only be for California, so you may be out of luck for next year. @Gurkensalat the ethereal arrangement of the theme in the land's entrances is by Randy Kerber. I'm hoping it'll still survive somewhere in the new soundscape. It's a neat take on the theme. For me personally, the area music will be a welcome addition. Before the land opened, I'd hoped it would favor diegetic music, saving JW for the rides and shows. But my feelings have changed. I just hope we'll get some deep cuts and underscore to round out the extraordinary-but-overplayed favorites. Gurkensalat, Tallguy and crumbs 3

I think it's because nobody cares for the disney films and they want to ambient everything in the Original trilogy (50th anniversary soon BTW!) Escape_Velocity 1
Popular Post Escape_Velocity 74 Posted January 17 Popular Post Posted January 17 I hope they do play the suite from Galaxy’s Edge as a part of the loop track though. I always criticized the land for having John Williams write a whole new theme only to barely use it. Gurkensalat, Yavar Moradi and igger6 2 1

BachSkywalker 210 Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Looks like yesterday, the 29th, was the first day that Williams' music is being played in Galaxy's Edge. Here's a video of some examples:
Xander Harris 9,528 Posted May 1 Posted May 1 I already posted that in an active thread. Sounds better than the CD release aj_vader 1
Datameister 2,576 Posted May 1 Posted May 1 There are some arrangements in the land that I don't recognize. Interesting!
Tallguy 7,260 Posted May 1 Posted May 1 From the video I saw it's all OT with one quote from Attack of the Clones. Well, the love theme, no idea which movie it was from. aj_vader and crumbs 2
Datameister 2,576 Posted May 1 Posted May 1 It's not all OT. I was there yesterday and heard some TROS, for example. And like I said, there are some arrangements that I don't recognize. The most prominent example was the rendition of the Force theme I heard in the entrance archway, but there were others too.
BachSkywalker 210 Posted May 1 Posted May 1 From the couple of videos I saw, the entrance music sounds different to my ears--main themes seemed a bit more subdued. I did hear Rey's theme in one of the videos.
