Cast your vote or say any movie or TV president that I've missed.

I've seen five of these (Freeman, Ford, DDL, Douglas, and Pullman).

It's one of the first two - Freeman has such gravitas in Deep Impact, but Ford is an action badass in AF1.

Day-Lewis takes a more character approach, clearly, but given I found that film unbelievably boring - which either means I'm being unfair to him, or maybe his performance wasn't amazing enough to get me to pay more attention.

Pullman does the bereaved performance well though. I've seen The American President at some point, but I just remember that as a standard, solid Douglas performance. I remember him better from Falling Down.

I forgot about President Palmer! The only role I've ever seen Dennis Haysbert in.

President Whitmore is the only one who stands out on this list.

The American President was always lame. The President is dating a chick. That’s it. That’s the story. And it isn’t even a romcom. It’s just boring aside from the supporting actors, who are barely in it.

Anthony Hopkins was like an absurd Disney animatronic that escaped from EPCOT Center in Amistad. Nixon may be the most boring movie I’ve ever tried to sit through. They should have just made it about James Woods.

Kevin Kline…Wild Wild West?

hard to beat Freeman in Deep Impact. Ford is a close second though

He's good, in FAR FROM HEAVEN.

Where's Frank Langella?

Where's Brian Keith?

It's been a long time since I've seen Amistad but didn't Hopkins play U.S. Congressman John Quincy Adams? Nigel Hawthorne (!) was the president.

Never seen it. But I imagine it was brain dead. ;)

You didn't include Paul Giamatti OR David Morse.

This might be an easier pick if you only included fictional presidents. Then I'm probably going with Pullman. Otherwise I'd have to go with "Anyone who played Abraham Lincoln."

Bill Pullman, on account of his speech. He genuine sells it!

The music helps a bit too.

I deliberated on this myself and if you remove the speech scene Pullman's president loses a few points - or enough to put him behind some of the others. So I went with Ford, who is great from beginning to end.

Martin Sheen was both the Prez in The West Wing and JFK in an 80s mini-series, if memory serves.

He was excellent in Nixon. Everyone was.

Hell, yeah!

I'd love to get hold of the extended version, on Blu.

I've always wondered if the 'door handle' scene between Hopkins and Hyde Pierce was scripted.

Good grief! Teddy Kennedy was played by Batman himself! Kevin Conroy! What kind of a car crash must that have been?

Trust me, it's not worth it. There's a whole press conference scene that drags on for 15 minutes. And there's a side thread in the extended version that feels so unrelated to the main Nixon story. Stone was right to shave it all back.

Yes. And son of John Adams, also former president.

Why no William Devane (the President on Stargate SG-1, 24, and The Dark Knight Rises), Dennis Haybert (also on 24), Keith David (on Rick and Morty), or Gary Oldman (in Oppenheimer)?

ALSO JFK (The Missiles of October).

Andrew Robinson (Garak) played JFK on The Twilight Zone.

No. Nothing against Truman. Or normally Oldman. But that was terrible.

Pullman still wins.

Are there any Horner Presidential scores I'm not thinking of? I'm sure there's something from Deep Impact. I'm not as into that score as many people I know are.

Clear And Present Danger maybe?

"How dare you come into this office and bark at me like some little junkyard dog! I am the President of the United States!"
