I was 12 years old in 2001 when I fell under the spell of John Williams' music.

Happy 94th birthday, Maestro John Williams!

On this new anniversary, we celebrate not only the architect behind some of cinema’s most beloved music, but also the composer deeply devoted to symphonic writing. Behind the worldwide fame stands an artist who has always taken pride in cultivating a concert repertoire where his sensitivity, his discipline, and a creative freedom unbound by narrative constraints can fully flourish.

These works, whether familiar or more rarely heard, reveal a creator who has never stopped exploring, refining, and engaging in dialogue with the great orchestral tradition. They remind us that John Williams is not only a master of the image, but a complete musician whose body of work continues to inspire, move, and uplift.

Happy 94th birthday, Maestro.

Nice photos. Do you know what the occasion was?

Who the fuck decided to troll us using that horrible AI image of John for his birthday wishes on JWfan and Instagram?

WTF is this?

Sorry? How do you know it's AI?

It was in Lenox some years ago.

Turns out the troll was reality.

Alright I made the JW lunch today while I rewatch the documentary. Now, I made some slight modifications. I used Italian style bread instead of wheat (not a fan of wheat bread). Then I added cheese because it complements the turkey. I did use bread and butter pickles and I see why @Maestro opted for better pickles: they’re fine but there are better pickles out there John. And lastly I got a regular orange Sunkist and not a diet. And what’s not pictured is chocolate chip cookies for dessert because of ASM:lol:

The close-up does look "enhanced."

I wish I could see it, Brando, but I've been having trouble viewing attachments. :(

Anyway, there seems to be a growing consensus here that John needs a better pickle for his sandwich. :rimshot:

I just saw that the composer György Kurtåg will be 100 Years old.

He composed an opera for this event in three weeks.

John Williams has plenty of time on his hands

Oh well, alright. Don't you have access to high res pictures? Or @Maurizio? Is it a problem with copyright?

I don't understand the choice, given there are so many recent closeups of him in high resolution. This looks super weird, with that blur filter halfway through his face.

But maybe I'm the only one who cares, so be it...

I like that photo. It was an upscaling made in a hurry this morning, clearly not with the best results. I'll try to improve it for his 95th ;)

Happy Birthday, Maestro.  Given your relationship with The Olympics, it is really ironic that your music will be playing today at the Olympics.  Not your amazing Olympic themes...but from JAWS.

UPDATE:

She used the main DUN DUN theme from Jaws, but I think it went into Intersteller.

Looks like we’ll revisit the question of judgment another time.

I thought she might've chosen 'Out to Sea/The Shark Cage Fugue,' but yeah, it was a Frankensteined mix of music which felt disjointed and didn't help her program. A bold choice, though.

I’m glad we are here again for another Happy Birthday thread!  No matter what life throws at you, remember that you were born at the right time to share time on Earth while Legendary Maestro John Williams was composing.

Indeed!!! We are all so blessed.

Happy Birthday, Maestro :beerchug:.

I think there's something special in celebrating birthdays on a Sunday. It feels special. Anyway, sure hope he can enjoy another b-day on a Sunday. :wizard:

A little late, but listened to the End Credits from the DCC release of ROTLA. Still the best.

Listening to the End Credits from Always, I just realized that Williams integrates the melody that Pete whistles throughout the movie at the very end.

Strange, I couldn’t upload it from my phone, I had to email it to myself and then post it from my laptop. Now I can’t see my own image on my phone (what I’m using typing this post) currently. Maybe there’s a bug that needs to be fixed, I’m not sure. But the pic is of the sandwich and chips😂

I may still occasionally struggle with some of the heavy hitters (I may be the worst's biggest dummy at understanding TPM's appeal), but the fact Williams occupies the most CDs in my film score collection says how much I've grown from being the kid who mostly enjoyed only Superman in his big pantheon of work. Happy 94th Maestro!

Happy 94th to the GOAT! :cheer::beerchug:

If his health allows it, and he's mentally well, I'd love to see him become one of the few centenarian people in history.

Dick Van Dyke can commiserate with him about them both being too old to play with LEGO. :crymore:
