Happy 94th Birthday to Maestro John Williams

Here are my first four John Williams albums. As a teenager, when I listened almost exclusively to classical music, I began, thanks to Columbia, to build a collection of films (on VHS!) and CDs. The three Star Wars films, in their original versions of course, were naturally part of my very first order. That made me realize just how much their music had been with me since childhood. So I bought the albums as well.
 

Then the connections started to form… E.T. Indiana Jones. Superman. That’s John Williams too? When I saw Jurassic Park in 1993, I wanted to discover everything he had ever written. I had fallen under the spell.
 

What a joy, so many years later, to see that despite illness and age, he is still with us, and that in four months we will have the privilege of hearing a new film score by John Williams for Spielberg’s upcoming Disclosure Day.

Well, I generally feel silly wishing "happy birthday" to someone that is not going to read it (I'm not sure I have ever done it, and I'm sure there would be multiple objections to this, I'm just that way), but yes, it's astounding that he's 94 years old and he still writes music!

I wish I can think at least clearly at that age! (If I ever reach it that is)

Alright I made the JW lunch today while I rewatch the documentary. Now, I made some slight modifications. I used Italian style bread instead of wheat (not a fan of wheat bread). Then I added cheese because it complements the turkey. I did use bread and butter pickles and I see why @Maestro opted for better pickles: they’re fine but there are better pickles out there John. And lastly I got a regular orange Sunkist and not a diet. And what’s not pictured is chocolate chip cookies for dessert because of ASM

I don't understand the choice, given there are so many recent closeups of him in high resolution. This looks super weird, with that blur filter halfway through his face.

Happy birthday to the Maestro! We’re all very lucky to be able to continue wishing him a happy year, especially a year with a new score ahead!

 

And of course, I’m grateful as ever for my own memories of him over the years, from stage door meetings when I was a teenager, to seeing him take the stage again in Boston just the other week. Plus, all those concerts and experiences are beautiful memories with my parents and boyfriend!

 

Thanks for the good times, Maestro. May there be more ahead!

I like that photo. It was an upscaling made in a hurry this morning, clearly not with the best results. I'll try to improve it for his 95th

A little late, but listened to the End Credits from the DCC release of ROTLA. Still the best.

 

Listening to the End Credits from Always, I just realized that Williams integrates the melody that Pete whistles throughout the movie at the very end.

I may still occasionally struggle with some of the heavy hitters (I may be the worst's biggest dummy at understanding TPM's appeal), but the fact Williams occupies the most CDs in my film score collection says how much I've grown from being the kid who mostly enjoyed only Superman in his big pantheon of work.
