Maestro of the Movies: A Tribute to John Williams with the LSO (Royal Albert Hall, October 31st, 2026)

Would be great if there were a tie-in album like the LSO's John Williams: A Life in Music that we got ahead of the planned 2018 JW appearance at the Royal Albert Hall (ideally with some deeper cuts and a less ugly cover this time).

I'm sure with the intervening advent of AI, they could now make that 2018 cover look like Botticelli by comparison.

This program is the latest rental from the IMG/Gorfaine-Schwartz production company, Film Concert Live!.  You can watch the rental's trailer in the link below.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra will be the first to do it this September at the Hollywood Bowl.

On the website, Movies In Concert, I've seen concerts with this title come up from other orchestras around the world, but I've dismissed it as each orchestra's own conventional concert program featuring samples of JW's music from select films.  Then, on FCL's website, I saw their latest rental with that said title.  I am disappointed that this is their new rental instead of a feature-film.  Now I have to wait, at least, 6 months for one another rental to come up.

It seems to have the version of the opening scene of Raiders with the newly composed/unused music for Belloq talking with Indy after the boulder scene!

This is really cool.  My one complaint of JW film music concerts is the start/stop nature of the pieces.  If there is actually a 50 minute piece (or a couple of longer movements) that flows musically without harsh edits (ideally, one that JW himself has constructed), that would be fantastic.  Maybe that is not what this is, but I hope.

It's not.

Not unexpected, I suppose.

The Boston POPS will give the show a "test-drive" at Tanglewood on Saturday, Aug 15. I don't understand the ins and outs of why the Tanglewood show isn't listed on the Film Concerts Live website, but it's all the same show.

Absolutely not going to this.

What, you don't want to hear Hedwig's Theme and Harry's Wondrous World live? ;)

I'll hear them later, I'm sure, in a proper concert format.

This is a proper concert format.

It's not. A concert would be the LSO playing JW's music without random film footage for people who are seemingly unable to just listen to one of the best orchestras and composers in the world.

It is. Tanglewood.

"The Sea Barrel Chase" and "Cave Sequence" have even been conducted by JW there.

So will this have dialogue/sfx from those scenes as well?

The cave sequence and Sea Barrel Chase are basically L2P scenes if my hunch is correct.

I wish these programmes would include more material that doesn't qualify as "the usual suspects".

Give us a few curves balls at least.

Imagine if the LSO went with that fake set list someone made for the 2018 RAH concert. Jane Eyre, The Land Race etc.
