Popular Post Maurizio 6,913 Posted March 10 Popular Post Posted March 10 Quote Join us for the ultimate concert celebration of the man who truly has composed the soundtrack to our lives, John Williams. With selections from his most iconic scores, including Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, Superman, Lincoln and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Featuring more than fifty minutes of specially edited scenes and clips from John Williams’ best-loved films, you can now experience these scores performed live to picture by the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Anthony Gabriele. The concert will also be presented by radio broadcaster Edith Bowman. This loving tribute to the greatest musical storyteller of our time is a feast for the eyes and the ears. https://www.royalalberthall.com/tickets/events/2026/maestro-of-the-movies-john-williams Martinland, Madmartigan JC, BachSkywalker and 5 others 3 4 1
Popular Post Quppa 533 Posted March 10 Popular Post Posted March 10 Kind of sad that they feel the need to project 'specially edited scenes and clips'. Cheapens it a bit. Lincoln hasn't been performed live very often, has it? That's a nice inclusion. Madmartigan JC, BB-8 and Erik Woods 3
Quppa 533 Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Would be great if there were a tie-in album like the LSO's John Williams: A Life in Music that we got ahead of the planned 2018 JW appearance at the Royal Albert Hall (ideally with some deeper cuts and a less ugly cover this time). BB-8 and bollemanneke 1 1

igger6 1,044 Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I'm sure with the intervening advent of AI, they could now make that 2018 cover look like Botticelli by comparison. BB-8 and Quppa 2
SyncMan 418 Posted April 14 Posted April 14 This program is the latest rental from the IMG/Gorfaine-Schwartz production company, Film Concert Live!. You can watch the rental's trailer in the link below. https://filmconcertslive.com/movies/maestro-of-the-movies-a-tribute-to-john-williams/ The Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra will be the first to do it this September at the Hollywood Bowl. On the website, Movies In Concert, I've seen concerts with this title come up from other orchestras around the world, but I've dismissed it as each orchestra's own conventional concert program featuring samples of JW's music from select films. Then, on FCL's website, I saw their latest rental with that said title. I am disappointed that this is their new rental instead of a feature-film. Now I have to wait, at least, 6 months for one another rental to come up. Tom 1

It seems to have the version of the opening scene of Raiders with the newly composed/unused music for Belloq talking with Indy after the boulder scene!

If there is actually a 50 minute piece (or a couple of longer movements) that flows musically without harsh edits (ideally, one that JW himself has constructed), that would be fantastic. Maybe that is not what this is, but I hope. ST-321 1

I don't understand the ins and outs of why the Tanglewood show isn't listed on the Film Concerts Live website, but it's all the same show. https://www.bso.org/events/john-williams-film-night-2026?performance=2026-08-15-20%3A00

bollemanneke 4,317 Posted April 14 Posted April 14 I'll hear them later, I'm sure, in a proper concert format.

bollemanneke 4,317 Posted April 14 Posted April 14 It's not. A concert would be the LSO playing JW's music without random film footage for people who are seemingly unable to just listen to one of the best orchestras and composers in the world.
Rachael Foley 10,001 Posted April 14 Posted April 14 1 hour ago, bollemanneke said: It's not. It is. Tanglewood. "The Sea Barrel Chase" and "Cave Sequence" have even been conducted by JW there.
Rachael Foley 10,001 Posted April 15 Posted April 15 2 hours ago, fommes said: So will this have dialogue/sfx from those scenes as well? The cave sequence and Sea Barrel Chase are basically L2P scenes if my hunch is correct.
1977 2,093 Posted April 15 Posted April 15 I wish these programmes would include more material that doesn't qualify as "the usual suspects". Give us a few curves balls at least. bollemanneke and Once 2
bollemanneke 4,317 Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Imagine if the LSO went with that fake set list someone made for the 2018 RAH concert. Jane Eyre, The Land Race etc.
