Jay 45,771 Posted April 15 Posted April 15 IIRC I've heard it played there, but don't remember what was supposedly different about it from the studio recording. I'm asking about this because I saw it on the program for this LSO concert happening in London in June John Williams Superman March from ‘Superman’ Patrick Doyle Can You See Jane and Thor Kills the Destroyer from ‘Thor’ Alexandre Desplat Excerpts from ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’ Simon Franglen Pandora Suite from ‘Pandora – The World of Avatar‘ (World Premiere) Philippe Rombi Excerpts from ‘Adventure Way Symphonic Suite’ John Williams Galaxy’s Edge (Tanglewood version) William Ross Skull Island: Reign of Kong Alan Silvestri End Titles Suite from ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’ Patrick Doyle The Games and Merida’s Home from ‘Brave’ Romain Trouillet Suite for Orchestra from ‘Asterix: The Kingdom of Nubia’ (World Premiere) Interval John Williams Star Wars Suite No 1: Main Title from ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’ James Horner arr Nikiforos Chrysoloras Samuel’s Death from ‘Legends of the Fall’ James Horner For The Love Of A Princess from ‘Braveheart’ Cho Young-Wuk and Lee Myoung Ro A Long Journey from ‘Harbin’ Alexandre Desplat Excerpts from ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ John Williams Dobby The House Elf from ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’ Patrick Doyle Potter Waltz from ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ Patrick Doyle La Valse de L’Amour and Pumpkin Pursuit from ‘Cinderella’ Trevor Jones Will and Anna from ‘Notting Hill’ Trevor Jones Love Theme from ‘The Dark Crystal Suite’ John Williams Raiders March from ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ Dirk Brossé conductor Craig Ogden guitar London Symphony Orchestra https://www.lso.co.uk/whats-on/lso-on-film-blockbusters-7-june-26/ BB-8 1
Tom 6,661 Posted April 15 Posted April 15 If I remember (and it has been awhile), it is significantly shorter, cutting out the section after full thematic statement (which is around the 3:00 minute mark) and going straight into the conclusion. That being said, maybe Williams revised it fresh when he did Anakin's theme and such. BSO insider might know.

BB-8 6,096 Posted April 16 Posted April 16 I'm not sure really. There's also this swifter more coherent performance conducted by David Newman: Ah, and the very first release had a different opening:
King Mark 3,926 Posted April 20 Posted April 20 The studio version is far superior to the one played in concerts. They cut out one of the best parts. None of the live versions are played properly either. I wish Williams conducted this at his Berlin or Vienna concerts , but then again he would have probably played the short version and we'd be disappointed. I still can't believe people listen to vinyl. Those crackles and pops are intolerable. oh well, as long as it helps keep physical media alive. Gurkensalat 1

I also find it disappointing when he makes cuts for the concert version, but as far as i've seen they're by word of mouth and were not cut in the print edition, but he sometimes does cut the best bits out....I find the cuts in this one a little awkward too.
