This thread is full of surprising surprises! There'll be a link to this thread under the definition of the word "surprise" on Dictionary.com before the month is over. And that'll be no surprise.

If you liquefied Episode IX and put it in a bowl, you could slurp Rise.

Even the LA Phil. was surprised!!

Anyone here attending this?

It looks like the piece has been moved to the beginning of the concert.

Yes, I've noticed that too. I don't think it made much sense to include it at the end.

A fanfare for four trumpets, from what I saw. Interesting.

Yes, they are the four "soloists," but the piece is for full orchestra.  Should be fun.  Hopefully we get to hear it soon.

Surely someone from JWFan is attending this?

Oui, ce sont bien les quatre « solistes », mais la pièce est pour orchestre complet. Ça promet d'être sympa. J'espère qu'on pourra l'entendre bientôt.

Ah, that's even more interesting.

A concerto for four solo trumpets is so much more practical than a concerto for four harpsichords… yes, J.S. Bach either had a great sense of humor… or a lot of students… and of course a lot of harpsichords!

Not so little.

When it was first announced that Williams has written a fanfare for Dudamel, I wasn't sure if it was (in Williams's world) a bigger deal than a "normal" person picking out a nice birthday card in the shop. But I figure you don't randomly write a piece for four trumpets and orchestra just as an afterthought.

This would have been easier:

The text isn't even moving…

It does if you drop the card.

I think this is a deliberate quote from Beethoven 9.

Possibly, but Williams has used this particular motif very frequently in recent years. Here it sounds especially like Beethoven’s 9th, but it is to be found in countless recent pieces of his, including the Piano Concerto, "Of Grit and Glory", "Overture to the Oscars", and countless other examples, always in slightly different guises. So it might just be an evolution of his preference for that particular three note motif.

Absolutely deliberate. The rhythmic sequence he repeats that motif in is way too close to be accidental.

Samantha and Jenny were there too.

Why post 2 random 30 seconds clips of the piece. If he posted the the whole thing and we'd have a half decent recording of the piece.

Are they supposed to be "teaser" clips? For what? A full recording we'll never get anyways?

Because he doesn't own the rights to any potential recording of the piece and managed to get two brief clips from members of the audience to showcase his performance on social media.

You may want to ask Hooter himself if any official recoding has been planned.

J'ai demandé à l'IA d'exécuter cette section, mais elle devait être défectueuse. Je n'ai rien entendu.
