What's funny about this is that Rebirth's Boat Chase leaked the same way, a minute length clipped segment that was randomly available on Desplat's topic channel.

After hearing that it was a score that's 'behind the film' I was thinking it was going to be really misty and ambient. This is as romantic and sublime as most of his scores are. So happy!

When I listened to it, it didn't play the last third or so, it just looped back to the beginning. I love that triplet section towards the end. Gorgeous! Bravo, Maestro.

Edit: JW going full religioso makes me very hopeful for the overall score. I was initially assuming we were gonna get a very "textural" score like WOTW, and while that is probably still the case, knowing we're also getting JW religioso music heightens my anticipation even more. Now I'm really hoping we get some awesome JW choral religioso music.

Some beautiful string section writing right there…As a professional violinist ( musician at Sychronstage Vienna, weekly recordings for Netflix, Hollywood, etc) I can only say…Gorgeous! Reminiscent of Vaughan Williams, Elgar or Taverner in JW own late style

I'm encouraged by the report that substantial parts are unscored.

 

These clips are really nice - the melody in the extended premiere clip yesterday has a nice catch to it - it has a mystery feel to it, which I slightly prefer in style to the string 'elegy' in the IG track. JW's style can get a little too meandering for me when he's writing extended string/brass passages.

John Williams… One last time. I haven't seen the film yet, but I listened to that fleeting audio clip this morning. As the memory of that familiar excitement—the kind I’ve felt for decades waiting for his new music—washed over me, I found myself utterly unable to hold back my tears. I think the last time John Williams’ music moved me to tears was nearly thirty years ago. It struck me when I least expected it.

I find most films are overscored, meaning the composer has to spend their time writing 2 hours of music, when often the film only really needs perhaps half that. Hence if DD is more lightly scored, JW has had more time to work on the more important cues, and not endless underscore that the film arguably didn't need. My position does need to be seen from the film's perspective however, and not from the perspective that more music is better.

Well, I don't listen to the samples posted above, but I won't certainly be able to hold till 6 months later from now (or more) that the film will be released digitally to watch it (since I'm not going to the cinema).

I'll listen to the ost, as soon as it gets released.

I'd prefer to watch the movie first and then hear the album when it starts streaming. Thats how I went with IJ & TDOD release. Its more rewarding to hear the score once you have the semblance to connect with the scenes it was composed for. Listening to music upfront with out seeing the movie kinda make me have my own version of the movie in my mind and that would conflict with the actual film images when Od get a chance to watch it.  Much like how the composer avoids to read the script so as not to conjure his own images as it would conlfict with the actual film when he has to score it.
