They did the two Williams pieces a few years back, ending the concert with Beethoven's 4th Symphony. That coupling must have been something wonderful to enjoy. Can't get much better than two masters of their own time performed side by side.

Somehow I remember the flute concerto as being just one movement.

I can’t see that it has - I feel like someone would have info if it had too! I expect they have just used the main tempo and other markings to divide it into different tracks that play uninterrupted.

It was presented as one track on the premiere recording (LSO/Slatkin on Varese), but JW’s own liner notes said the concerto itself was in four movements.

Another tidbit - from Tim's book. The flute concerto has a name: "Design". Odd that it is missing from the recordings.
