Quppa 733 Posted June 7 Posted June 7 Nice find. It also includes Williams' Essay for Strings: https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/9871701--john-williams-flute-concerto-bernard-herrmann-souvenirs-de-voyage Bryant Burnette and That_Bloke 2
Popular Post Miguel Andrade 1,735 Posted June 7 Popular Post Posted June 7 They did the two Williams pieces a few years back, ending the concert with Beethoven's 4th Symphony. That coupling must have been something wonderful to enjoy. Can't get much better than two masters of their own time performed side by side. Bayesian, That_Bloke and Jay 3
Quppa 733 Posted June 11 Posted June 11 The third movement (Andante - Cadenza) of the flute concerto has been released as a digital single: Once and johnmillions 2

GerateWohl 6,537 Posted Monday at 01:43 PM Posted Monday at 01:43 PM Somehow I remember the flute concerto as being just one movement. Has it been extended?
Jurassic Shark 16,530 Posted Monday at 01:53 PM Posted Monday at 01:53 PM Probably just four movement played attaca. Anyway, great to see a work by Friedhofer included! GerateWohl and johnmillions 2

I can’t see that it has - I feel like someone would have info if it had too! I expect they have just used the main tempo and other markings to divide it into different tracks that play uninterrupted. It’s available for preorder at Presto and will be part of their Pentatone sale so an ideal time to pick it up! https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/9871701--john-williams-flute-concerto-bernard-herrmann-souvenirs-de-voyage ST-321 1

It was presented as one track on the premiere recording (LSO/Slatkin on Varese), but JW’s own liner notes said the concerto itself was in four movements. (Apologies: I keep getting error code 200 when trying to upload pictures of the relevant parts of the Varese CD as evidence)
pete 1,336 Posted Monday at 10:32 PM Posted Monday at 10:32 PM Another tidbit - from Tim's book. The flute concerto has a name: "Design". Odd that it is missing from the recordings.
