segliay 0
If they arent going to release expanded scores why didnt they just put isolated scores on the dvds.Sure it wouldnt be exactly as william's composed it but atleast it would have some version of complete scores. Lurker 5
Paramount doesn't regularly release isolated scores. Only The Duellists on DVD has one and Chinatown on laser disc has one. That's it.Neil
Chris ChrusherComix 27
I think Williams, in general, is against isolated scores. He's only allowed a small handful.
Morn 7
He seems to suggest that he wants a score to be totally unedited without too much atmosphereic material before he wants people to focus only on the score while watching
Chris ChrusherComix 27
Yes, BUT Superman: The Movie is heavily edited. And, although Witches Of Eastwick is nearly complete, my personal favorite cue (The Ballroom Scene) was edited out entirely. 1941, however, that seems as if every note that was composed for that film was in the movie. If only they could ALL be so precise. In fact, from doing my DVD extract, I found no truly horrible edits, and no clearly missing music. Of course, that's the case with most Spielberg/Williams films (other than The Lost World).
Rogue_Leader 2
Its too bad there wasn't some way to manually isolate the score from a DVD.
Lurker 5
1941 has a lot of tracked music throughout the score.Neil
Chris ChrusherComix 27
R U sure, Neil? I wouldn't say that. Sure, there's a little (source cues in particular), but all extremely reasonable.Minor tracking or one loop is fine in my book. To cover an edit or missed timing, that's fine. Most of the time, with sound effects, it goes unnoticed. If we're talking tracking and looping, the Star Wars Prequels are the worst, with AOTC taking the cake as worst music editing EVER in a John Williams scored film. The Lost World was pretty bad, for Spielberg, but still better than AOTC. 1941 is one of the best examples of a score being used correctly. E.T. is another, and quite possibly the best case (minus the shitty edit in the E.T. Special Edition's bike takeoff near the end... just RUINED the finale for me). Lurker 5
Keep this in mind....Williams didn't score the extended version of 1941 presented on LD and DVD.Neil
