pixie_twinkle 44
Hi all! I'm new to this forum but not to the site. I have a question I've been dying to ask you all since I first found this website last year. I have an embarassingly large collection of original John Williams soundtracks including Spacecamp and Witches of Eastwick original CDs etc etc. Yes I'm a geek. No I have nothing better to spend what little money I have on. Etc etc.I have an original vinyl release of the John Williams music for the TV series Checkmate. It's not the jazz combo version I've seen listed, it comprises 12 original John Williams recordings. This item isn't even listed under the John Williams Recordings page on this site. Is this a truly rare album? Does anyone else have it? I got it on Ebay a few years ago and only paid around the $20 mark. If anyone else knows of this LP please let me know. Of course I put it onto CD as soon as I could to avoid damage to the original .

Rogue_Leader 2
You have Spacecamp? Damn! I want that friggin score!!!!!
pixie_twinkle 44
On CD AND vinyl actually hehe. You MUST have a CD-R of it by now surely? If not get onto it at once! It's a lovely score. Quite magical. If you like The Tennis Game from Witches of Eastwick you'll like Spacecamp. It's similarly "twinkly".

Quite magical. If you like The Tennis Game from Witches of Eastwick you'll like Spacecamp. It's similarly "twinkly".Strange, I would never make that connection. The Tennis Game is brilliant and not "twinkly" like Spacecamp! Spacecamp shares more ground with Always. Spacecamp is not his greatest score and is just a tiny bit dated somehow, just like that movie. On the other hand, I suppose some cues are vaguely familiar with Witches, after all. Aah, Spacecamp sounds like Spacecamp.-----------------Alex Cremers
King Mark 2,924
I love Spacecamp, and I too think it's very magical Sounding.Sort of an extension to E.T.,with lots of shimering brass passages.I've said "In Orbit" could be one of the most georgeous Williams pieces. And this score is one of the "purest" Williams sounding(unmistakable,prototypical).K.M. Miguel Andrade 964
Checkmate is over 40 years old, never re-released, so you can say it is a rare gem. And getting it for as little as 20$ is quiet a great treat. As said before, don't have a problem with your collection, that's quiet fine... and by the way, what other rare stuff do you have? Chris ChrusherComix 27
It is on the rare side, agreed. I only have two different CDR copies of it myself. And do not be ashamed of a gigantic collection either! Listen to Miguel, you shall!
pixie_twinkle 44
Other rarities? I don't know what you consider to be particularly rare but I have all the FSM releases (including Towering Inferno ) plus a few nice vinyl records including Diamond Head, Not With My Wife You Don't. I also have CDs of Fitzwilly, Penelope, How to Steal A Million, Spacecamp, Witches of Eastwick, Temple of Doom, Accidental Tourist, and just about everything else that's ever been readily available. I can't find the prelude and fugue though!!!Of course I AM proud of my collection. It wasn't until I found this site that I realized there were others like me out there. I thought my John Williams obsession was a rarity! I've always loved his music. It's partly through exposure to his music as a child that I came to love music as I do today. I certainly own more CDs by John Williams that by any other individual composer.
WLW 0
I bought Checkmate on LP about 12 years ago. I can't remember how much I paid, but I think it was in that $20 range too.
