What's the most beautiful song?

bruckhorn

Hector J. Guzman wrote: "The lyrics are perfect... this is one of the most beautiful songs period. "

Hector wrote that about "For Always" from A.I. and it got me thinking, what are some of the most beautiful songs.

For me:

Imgine by John Lennon

Someone to Watch Over Me by the Gershwins (sung by Sinatra)

Anybody else wish to pitch in their two cents?

bruckhorn, who has frequently muttered "I should listen to that again" when reading the Greatest Violin Concerto thread.

Probably one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard is "Time to Say Goodbye" sung by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman.

That's pretty good! I love Sarah!

The songs I find the most beautiful would be:

1.- Tears in Heaven, by Eric Clapton

2.- Iris, by Goo Goo Dolls

3.- Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, by The Platters

4.- Against All Odds, by Phil Collins

5.- Bring Him Home, from the musical Les Misérables

I would really be shocked if no one else listed Tears in Heaven in their top 5 list. It has to be without a doubt the best song from this half of the century.

-ROSS, who thinks For Always would go sixth and Billy Gilman's Oklahoma seven.

There are sooo many great songs written that I find it nearly impossible to select 'the most beautiful'. I can only list some:

Fade To Black - Metallica

One - U2

With Or Without You - U2

Purple Rain - Prince

Letter To My Unborn Child - 2Pac

Brothers In Arms - Dire Straits

That I Would Be Good - Alanis Morrisette

Russians - Sting

Bridge Over Troubled Water - Paul Simon

Do They Know It's Christmas - Band Aid

Kayleigh - Marillion

The Drugs Don't Work - The Verve

Street Spirit - Radiohead

Porcelain - Moby

1979 - The Smashing Pumpkins

Black - Pearl Jam

Imagine - John Lennon

Miss Sarajevo - The Passangers

I'm On Fire - Bruce Springsteen

November Rain - Guns N' Roses

Unfinished Sympathy - Massive Attack

Eternal Flame - The Bangles

Woman In Chains - Tears For Fears

Pamela - Toto

...

...

...

But this list could go on and on and eventually contain more than a 1000 songs I really, really love. This is just a small sample.

Oh, and when I attend a concert of, let's say, gothic death metal band Cradle Of Filth, most of their songs bring tears to my eyes and chills down my spine. The larger public wouldn't label their work as 'beautiful', but for me, it is.

Bye,

Roald

We Have All The Time In The World - Louis Armstrong, from the On Her Majesty's Secret Service soundtrack.

Neil

Great choice, Neil.

I've heard a lot of people complaining about it, because it's not a "Bond-type" song, and it's use in the film is supposed to be rather cheesy.

The song always chokes me up a bit, even though Armstrong was already very sick when it was recorded, he still managed to put a lot of heart into it.

Trivia, is this the last song Armstrong recorded before his death?

I know he died shortly after it.

Stefancos- who must listen to that song now.

"Calling All Angels" - Jane Siberry

"Your Song" - "

"Enchantment Passing Through" - Elton John (From "Aida")

"Elaborate Lives" - "

"Written In The Stars" - "

Yeah, I agree with you in these songs. However, I don't think any of the Aida songs would be so touching. The lyrics and music are great, but for the plot's sake, they don't stand out alone.

Your Song has the most beautiful set of lyrics ever heard:

So excuse my forgetting but these things I do

You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue

But anyway, the thing is, what I really mean

Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen

That's great lyric work. I know cause I attempt to be a writer.

And of course Calling All Angels from the Pay it Forward soundtrack. It's great, and it breaks one's heart only to hear it.

Like the beat beat beat of the tom-tom

When the jungle shadows fall

Like the tick tick tock of the stately clock

As it stands against the wall

Like the drip drip drip of the raindrops

When the summer shower is through

So a voice within me keeps repeating you, you, you

Night and day, you are the one

Only you beneath the moon or under the sun

Whether near to me, or far

It's no matter darling where you are

I think of you

Day and night, night and day, why is it so

That this longing for you follows wherever I go

In the roaring traffic's boom

In the silence of my lonely room

I think of you

Day and night, night and day

Under the hide of me

There's an oh such a hungry yearning burning inside of me

And this torment won't be through

Until you let me spend my life making love to you

Day and night, night and day

No, the 1985 stage musical (I think you'd like it Morn, give it a try). It was composed by Claude-Michel Schönberg, with lyrics by Alain Boubill and Herbert Kretzmer.

A flawless piece.

i can't resist: these words are SO beautiful I have to share.

BRIGHT JOURNEYS: Songs of Love and Light

"In light and life abundant all blessings, love, and joy distill to one

I love you:

And in that breath when dawn turns dark to midnight blue, I wake to you.

Prescient gray stays waning starlight to trace your face in silver.

Cold light warmed by soft breath, closed eyes follow hidden dreams.

Silently I call you back from night's solitary journey, and we are one.

In your eyes, in ever changing plays of light and life- I am possessed.

In your hands, in passion's play defined and lifted- I am made whole.

In your voice, your laughter, your delight- I am restored.

And in the dawn, I am renewed, reclaimed from darkness and reborn.

In light and life abundant all blessings, love, and joy distill to one

I love you.

Shadows creep to shrouded havens as sunlight summons me to labor

And you my day illumine

Transmuting hueless glare to stained glass splendor, you enfold me in light that is love given birth

Light that is knowledge, light from the light

Thus defined in jeweled glory I am freed from earthbound vision to ardent dreams and glowing passions.

But in your face is sunlight's promise, love's own grace and shining honor

And in your eyes the light of laughter, light that eases, light that heals.

In your body the warmth of children, kindled sparks of life's renewal.

In you, bright friend of daylight hours, rest all the gifts of light and love

And caught in quickened radiance is the promise of a perfect day.

In light and life abundant all blessings, love, and joy distill to one

I love you.

Dusk grays sunset's gaudery and draws behind it cool phantoms of the night.

You are sanctuary;

Enwrapped in golden candlelight I find sweet refuge.

Discord fades as ancient airs weave runes of quiet joy.

Sweetest now are daylight's melodies, replayed softly in your face

From this sure haven comes purest counterpoint, two unbound voices, more glorious as one.

O dearest love, sing me your song, my heart, unguarded, seeks your lead.

Sing to me all love and hope, your joy, your pain, your light and laughter,

And I will sing you home to shelter, certain welcome, certain love

As one we will enter into night, and beyond the dark into the dawn."

These one is great too:

ALL MY TRIALS

"If religion was a thing that money could buy

The rich would live but the poor would die

All my trials lord, soon be over

Too late my brothers, too late but never mind

All my trials lord, soon be over

Now hush little baby, don't you cry

You know that man was born to die

All my trials lord, soon be over

Too late my brothers, too late but never mind

All my trials lord, soon be over"

NEW TESTAMENT: Song of Songs

"Rise up, my love, my fair one and come away

For lo, the winter is past and the rain is over and gone

The clouds appear on the earth

The time for the singing of birds is come

And the voice of the turtle is heard in the land

Whither is my beloved gone, o thou fairest among women

Whither is thy beloved turned aside, that we may seek him with thee

My beloved is gone down into his garden

To the beds of spices to feed in the gardens, and to gather lilies

I amy beloved's, and he is mine"

Movement 2

"Many waters cannot quench love"

Movement 3

"Awake O North wind and come thou South

Blow upon my garden that the spices may flow out

Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits"

Movement 4

"Set me as a seal upon thine heart

As a seal upon thine arm

For love is strong, Amen"

SING ME TO HEAVEN

In my heart's sequestered chambers lie truths stripped of poets' gloss

Words alone are vain and vacant, and my heart is mute

In response to aching silence, memory summons half-heard voices

And my soul finds primal eloquence, and wraps me in song

If you would comfort me, sing me a lullaby

If you would win my heart, sing me a love song

If you would mourn me and bring me to God, sing me a requiem, sing me to Heaven

Touch in me all love and passion, pain and pleasure

Touch in me grief and comfort, love and passion, pain and pleasure

Sing me a lullaby, a love song, a requiem

Love me, comfort me, bring me to God

Sing me a love song, sing me to Heaven"

I know most of you probably just read over this: but these texts hold a special place in my heart. They have changed my aura.
