Pierce Brosnan no Longer James Bond?

Lurker

Recommended Posts

According to several very reputable sites, Pierce Brosnan looks to be out as James Bond and the search for a new actor has begun. We all knew this would happen eventually, but it seems odd to replace an actor at the height of his popularity in a role that everyone loves him in. Now, I realize that EON has not issued an official statement about Brosnan being let go, but they also have not issued a statement saying these rumors are false.

You can read about it here, here and here.

I read somewhere he was going to do one more Bond movie and then quit, though that wasn't official either. Also, remember that he is already 51, and the Bond character requires a lot of physical activities, like running, jumping etc. Brosnan grows older, and so does his body. In the Making of GoldenEye, when he was 42 years old, he was totally out of breath after they shot a scene of him running.

I've heard that too, Neil. It seems negotiations for the next film with Brosnan have indeed ground to a halt, and now they are looking for a new actor. I wonder who it'll be, though I really wish we'd have gotten another 007 with Brosnan, because I think he makes a great James Bond. Pity.

A spokesman for Eon Productions (which owns the Bond franchise) confirmed that Brosnan may "retire" as 007. "We are always looking to target younger audiences. . . . We want fans who will still be watching in 40 years."

Target younger audiences? Fans who will be watching in 40 years? You mean people who will still be alive to be sucked dry in 40 years! You want an audience that's going to last? Make good movies, you fools!

That means you can look forward to Brittany Spears singing the next Bond Song and playing the Bond girl as well. :)

James Bond will probably start to look like a Bruckheimer production. :(

I am not to upset as I don't think anyone since Roger Moore has been an acceptable Bond.

Joe, who thinks Moore was underrated as Bond.

I like that idea, actually . . . Brosnan will always be Bond for me, since seeing GoldenEye in the theatre was my first Bond movie, but I think Jackman could be great.

James Bond is no longer James Bond :-(

I liked connery and moore so much more... I have the whole collection actualy, but brosnan just didn't do it for me...

and bond has to be young with all the ladies hes screwing... I mean, in die another day, pirce who looked 50 was with Halley Berry, who was like... 20 How did she conform to that?

I've heard speculation around Ewan McGregor, although I believe his comments on the possibility have been less than confirming.

No question that Brosnan will leave his mark on the role. He would have to be my favorite so far (after Connery of course).

I'd like him to do a few more.Just as we get accustomed to a new Bond ,he gets replaced. Now it will take 1 or 2 movies to get accustomed to the new one.

and wasn't Roger Moore much older when he quit the role?

This just in:

Brosnan will return in the next Bond.

According to IGN.com, Brosnan will definitly return as 007 in Bond 21. Variety reported this, and so the rumors of Brosnan no longer doing Bond are debunked.

Read the full IGN article here.

It struck me as odd at first that Brosnan would not be coming back, because in DAD interviews I think he often said he'd like to do one more. Oh well.

I figued as much, remember Brosnan was contracted to do 4 films, which he did, so now they needed to negotiate a new contract.

Brosnan probably wanted more money, this sort of thing happens all the time.

Brosnan's Bond films have all been huge hits, and he's far from to old for the role, it would not make sense to retire him to "appeal to a younger audience"

You'd figure that sort of thing from Hollywood
Yea your right...they'll do anything to make an extra buck here and there...its not all about making the quality movie or about making a movie people like, but its about bringing in the money and saving some where they can.

It would seem that each of the Bonds are most successful when they fall into their own stride.

Connery as more of an easy-going Bond but tough as nails if he had to be whereas Brosnan is very shrewd and calculating with a flair for the more ruthless scenes- like letting the former 006 fall into the Goldeneye dish.

I still wouldn't care much either way, Brosnan's a good actor and if he's going to stay(which I already know he is) good for him he get's more work, and if someone else replaces him then good for him I hope he fills the role accordingly

. . . .gets more work? Bond or no, I don't think Brosnan's going to be browsing the employment section of the classifieds anytime soon.

It's funny how people are saying that Brosnan is too old for bond, yet Harrison Ford is fine to do another Indiana Jones? Indy requires a lot more athleticism, or at least the same amount and Brosnan can outrun Ford right now..... I hope Brosnan stays, if not, Clive Owen is my choice to take over the mantle. As for Indy.. I don't think they should do one with Harrison.... oops, sorry guys... I just think it's going to be an embarrassment to all associated with it. I think they need to find a younger Indy or have him have a son that does everything and have him be the "dad" figure.

Let the Binali bashing begin...

I think they should do one with Harrison or nothing at all. The latter option sounds like the best to me.

And apparently Bond has to be young. Or the audience won't believe him getting laid three times per film. Or so they say. Load of bull in my opinion. It's James Bond for crying out loud! Ze ultimate gentleman spy; he could get some if he were retired and old and shriveled. And there's plenty of marketing tie-in already (Philishave and Heineken were painfully obvious in DAD), why don't they have him advertising Viagra?

"New: 007 Viagra. To shag for King and Country!"

Well, he never does actually have sex. The camera pans away, to a shot of the braw flying, falling, or floating off. Maybe he just can't get it up, and the camera's being nice!

Well I liked Goldeneye much. :) Though I think I'd rather see the old Connery movies, Bruckheimer style with mere Brosnan isn't the same. :P

Marc.

Let's just get one thing straight.

James Bond...MY hero does not need, nor will ever need to make use of Viagra or any kind of drug that produces a similar effect.

Period.

I know. That was pretty much my point. I just added the last bit as a slap on the rediculous marketing tie-ins.
