Lurker 5
I've always found this to be a very restrained recording. It never really opens up. It sounds too polished and precise to me. Maybe cold would be a good word.Neil - who has the non-Telarc promo release of this album (the sequencing is different and that's about it)
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,251
I have the Telearc album, as well as the promo, and I agree with Neil. It's a perfectly acceptable compilation, but it lacks the drive and energy of the original recordings, or other recordings of this material. Marian Schedenig 5,520
I only have the other SACD (Concerto for Orchestra, Christus Apollo, Fireworks), though only the CD version of that...sound is very good indeed on that one, and the performance as well.As for performances of the film scores...they really should record one of the live concerts (if there ever will be another one...). 2001's Blue Max is probably unbeatable, and the same goes for 2003's Supergirl and Barnaby Jones.Marian - who hasn't listened to last year's CDs yet. AC1 3,565
Anyone listened to the Herrmann/Salonen yet? It's also available on SACD. I wonder how that one sounds. Maybe it's too clinical too.
fommes 126
Anyone listened to the Herrmann/Salonen yet?I have this one, but not the SACD version. I like it quite a lot, I'd say it's recommendable.
Marian Schedenig 5,520
I have the CD...great performances, and great sound. A definitive recommendation.Marian - who has to dig it out again from his pile of CDs.
King Mark 2,924
There is an interesting version of Caroll Ann's theme from Poltergeist on there.K.M.
Marian Schedenig 5,520
Well, it's the standard Motion Picture Medley version I guess. A bit too overblown for my taste, though still nice...but in that medley, Papillon is the standout for me. The medley wasn't arranged by Goldsmith by the way.Marian - forgetting who did the arrangement. Star Wars
King Mark 2,924
Well the Poltergeist theme has some elaborate orchestration different from anywhere on the OST.K.M.
AC1 3,565
I saw this today in the SACD version. I just checked the net and it's getting good responses. I'll be going after it tomorrow.----------------Alex Cremers

Marian Schedenig 5,520
Hmm,what is Fireworks "similar " to?The MummyI'd say it's much more similar to Bad Girls, minus the Western touch of course.Marian - who wants the Bad Girls soundtrack.
