Mr. Breathmask 480
Just read the review of the new Saving Private Ryan: D-Day 60th Anniversary Commemorative Edition DVD.Among the extras is this:Music and Sound Effects is an interview with John Williams and sound designer Gary Rydstrom, running 14 minutes. It doesn't specify anymore than that.Granted, this is not one of those big all-out Williams scores, and I expect this section to be mostly dedicated to the sound design (which has to be the best war soundtrack ever, btw). But nevertheless, every interview Williams gives should be interesting for us, no?Just thought I'd let everyone know. If this isn't news, then, well... never mind. - Marc

diskobolus 3
Yeah, we talked about this when the DVD was anounced.I missed it. Thank you, Mr. Breathmask.Already an owner of the original SPR dvd, I probably will not buy this. Maybe I'll eventually rent in from the town library to watch the interview. Morlock 9
I already owned the original DVD, and I should be getting the new in the mail any day now. SAme thing with Black Hawk Down, both war movies that originaly got very unsatisfactory DVD releases (BHD went on to have what is one of the best DVD releases). Morlock 9
I got the DVD, and I am very happy with it. Unlike most Spielberg documentries, it has tons of footage of just Spielberg directing and a lot of on the set footage. The music and sound doc is very good, the music doc for some reason felt different from the rest of the ones Bouzereau has done. In my opinion what williams had to say was a bit more interesting than they sometimes are, and this is the first time I've seen footage of Williams recording a score outside a studio (in Symphony Hall in Coston). It's great to see Tom Hanks likes the recording sessions, just like Tom Cruise always goes to them, and it's just very good. The sound one is also very intersting. The movie's use of music and sound is really great, and at times there's a very delicate balance kept. Everything's been said about the movie itself of course, but I find, even though I was a bit underwhelmed with the movie the first 7-8 times, by now it really gets better every time, and sinks in deeper.
