Lurker 5 Posted June 8, 2004 Share Posted June 8, 2004 I've noticed in certain movies the boom mic falls into frame, much like in that pic you posted above. Some folks have told me when this happens it is the projectionists fault. While some others say it is the fault of the filmakers particularly the guy in charge of the cinematography. Which is true?Typically it's the projectionists fault. This only happens with flat films, not films made anamorphically. A flat film is usually designed to be shown at 1.85:1 but they can be filmed at 1.33:1 and cropped by the projector to 1.85:1. What happens though is the projectionist will have the framing set to low, and suddenly boom mics show up. The mics are protected inside the 1.85:1 ratio, but if that's set to low by the projectionist, the mics will be visible.
