Thanks for the link, Roald!

Simple and effective. I like the artwork (why's Hanks bending forward a little?). Overall, to me the cover looks warmer than the CMIYC one.

Rating: ****

That looks like the cover art for the Forrest Gump posters.

Are they trying to leech success off of that movie now?

Note the same deal! Tom Hanks against a white background with a suitcase.

I hope I didn't offend anyone by expressing my dislike for the Forrest Gump movie.

Anyway, now that I can compare both of the two artworks better (thanx Neil), there's a slight similarity to be admitted for the sake of fairness. Both show Tom Hanks in profile. The FG artwork showing Hanks sitting on the bench, while on the Terminal we can see Hanks only looking around for a bench to sit on.

Still, I like the Terminal better. Even the typeface used is cooler and the man on the cover is clearly Tom Hanks.

If explosions is what you want, then don't worry, War of the Worlds is due for 2006. But for now, I'm really curious to see what it is that made Spielberg wanna do this project.

Hmm... Randy Kerber? I'm excited to hear him play something besides celeste! His technique on that hideous instrument is excellent - I'd love to hear what he can do with something more pleasant to play, like a piano.

The sound isn't hideous, but the instrument itself usually is. Celestes tend to live in musty closets and are mostly used for Christmas concerts, etc. The rest of the time, they gather dust and dead insects and who knows what else. Plus they are often difficult to control while playing - the evenness of Kerber's sound is impressive. It takes a very light and dextrous touch to produce such quick scales on the piano - the celeste require a more... shall we say, forceful... touch to produce sound.

I had a professor who used to accompany a ballet company and he had some more colorful phrases for the state of celestes in general. :) So Kerber's excellent playing on that thing means his piano playing must be even better! (Of course, the LSO could just have a really nice instrument, but they're still kind of weird to play even under the best of conditions)

no needs for the heads up if you go to the front page first.

I love these sounds, very ethnic

my fav. is Desting, Cannaloni, and a tale of Victor Navorski

Well, you can't really discern much from 25 second samples, but overall, sounds very, very nice.

I love the bit of the Anthem, and 'Finding Coins and Learning to Read too'. I like what I hear in 6 and 7. And the second and last tracks- sounds like Nino Rota! (and I must say, reminds me of Zimmer's As Good as It Gets is style).

Sounds like great fun, a score that'll join the ranks of Accidental Tourist and Stanely and Iris (though IMO from the samples, I think I'll like this more).

Tracks 6 & 10 resemble The Float a bit.

12 is very nice, though reminds me of Thomas Newman a bit.

And track 6 sounds a bit like the track from Pollock used in the trailer, and a bit of HP, from the great hall.

I am really looking forward to this. Can't say this is what I had in mind, but sounds like a very solid, very good romantic comedy score.

Yay!

That's about all I can say. I was jumping up and down when I heard them. I'm so excited!

It sounds wonderful. I like the Eastern European use of clarinet. The old fashioned romantic music is charming. The, dare I say, Vince Guaraldi-esque jazz, is cool. I'm not much of a Guaraldi fan, but I like this stuff (I don't hate Guaraldi, don't get me wrong). The anthem is just plain awesome! I have an anthems of the world CD, and it fits in perfectly. More stuff than I can speak about in this CD.

Overall, a wonderful, charming, and completely refreshing CD from our friend, John Williams.

I do go to the front page, but tonight, I probably would've only gone there an hour after Neil's post. Now I manged to listen to the tracks a dozen times before going to bed.

The Tale of Viktor Navorski reminds me of the Escape From Monkey Island music for some odd reason

I have to admit I've never heard this kind of Williams really but

I love it!

Hey, should I have just posted on the other thread? I did this because the other thread was not a thread about the Terminal MP3s, so I thought that the subject should have its own thread. I'm sorry if that was not good policy.

Wow...this is awesome. To me, it sounds like a combo of Sabrina, CMIYC, with a hint of Minority Report (mostly b/c of the synth in track 11--"Gupta's Deliverance").

The track I think I enjoyed the most was "Viktor and His Friends" (track 4). It reminds me a little bit of the first minute of "Linus' New Life". I love it when JW writes string parts like that.

Really, it sounds like it oughta fit Spielberg's film like a glove.

I thought it was boring, but i'm not going to pass judgement on the entire album based on some clips.

Yes, I'm sure the celeste used in a Williams recording is filled with dead insects.

Ha! **puts a space between his teeth, becomes the governor of CA, goes on Conan as a pic on a TV screen** "You ahh boring, Con-an! You vill be termeenated! AHHH!!!"

Seriously...how old are you? The Terminal is not boring, Poindexter. It's got guts, compassion, elbow grease and something you're sadly lacking in, son--maturity! So what if it doesn't sound like Star Wars or Harry Potter? Doesn't mean it's boring or any less of a great score. To throw in another Schwarzenegger-related quote, "Open your mind...open your miiiinddd..."

I'll wait for the whole album myself. Crappy phone connections kinda' force my hand, although I usually prefer CD sound quality over mp3s.

If it was E3 mp3s though... you'd bet I'd be listening. :|

Preview Analysis!

Track1 Tale of Victor Navorsky:

Playful Eastern European theme for Victor Navorsky.Features Victor's theme played on a clarinet.I don't remember anything similar in Williams repertoire(well, maybe the last minute of Schindler's Workforce, except Victor's Theme is more "happy").

Track2Dinner With Amelia:

Playful romantic track played on the the accordion.Somewhat Italian sounding.

Track3 A Legend is Born:

Slow mournful horn melody almost note for note Finale from JFK...uh no...Theme from Sleepers..that's not it either...dammit I know this...anyways surely for when Victor remembers his home country and family.

Track4 Victor and his Friends:

Fast bouncy piece reminescent of The Float in Catch Me If You Can

Track 5 The Fountain Scene:

Delicate piece featuring the vibraphone(?).Reminescent of the quiet passages in Far and Away(Am I Beautiful)

Track6 The Wedding of Officer Torres:

Another jaunty playful piece, sounds like the cue Phil is Born in Heartbeeps

Track7 Jazz Autographs:

Elegant piano dinner music reminescent of Theme from Sabrina

Track 8 Refusing to Escape:

Starts off with plucked strings very much like Angela's Ashes(My Dad's Story),then Victor's clarinet theme returns

Track 9 Krakozhia National Anthem:

Marching band style anthem for brass and percussion.Loud and bombastic.Somewhat Russian sounding.

Trak 10 Looking For work

Starts with the slightly altered opening bars of Mischief Managed(seems Williams was in a hurry for this score),then the theme from track 6 returns slightly variated

Track 11:Gupta's Deliverance

Starts off with the unreleased Patronus Lesson choir music, then breaks into a sad sounding Americana cue a la Jonathan Kent's Funeral, then into a more contemporary romantic sounding piano and string theme.

Track 12:Finding Coins and Learning to Read

Another Eastern European flavour thematic material with Oboe and Piano.

Track 13:Canellonis and Tale of Victor Navorsky

This cue starts tenderly on the piano, then nostalgic strings and oboe echo parts of Sabrina again(even a few notes are the same).Full strings take over and the love theme swells (Finale?)then ends to lead into a formal arrangement of Victor's clarinet theme once more(End Credits?).The accordion joins in accompaniment as the theme progresses. At the 4 minute,it gets more bombastic and louder and is reminsecent of Harry Potter music.

Track 14A Happy Navorsky Ending

Reprise of the accordion romantic theme from Track 2.

All the tracks worked fine for me. Interestingly, the two that don't seem to work for some are actually the whole 3-5 minute tracks.

Zimmer's As Good As It Gets is as blatant rip-off of Mozart's Clarinet Concerto that's it's even tragic. Is the Therminal score so blatantly unoriginal, Morlock?

I ve listened to the clips many times,i guess it will be an OK score.I didnt expect any Buckbeaks Flight in there anyways.

I bet the OST will be far more complete than PoA.

Morlock's references to The Accidental Tourist and Stanley and Iris are way off the mark too. I haven't heard one similarity, neither in style nor music or atmosphere.

Nope, it starts as an almost exact copy of 'Come Phil' from Heartbeeps.

Well,I said that too...Phil's Theme..yeah,Phil is Born.

K.M.Who never thought Williams would re-visit heartbeeps..then again why not,it's probably his least heard score.
