;)

I am grateful for, and will always remember, his legendary performances in films such as On The Waterfront and The Godfather.

Well, not to slight his other performances which are probably all better, I'm probably only going to remember him for being Jor-El. Hey...if I saw The Godfather when I was a year old instead, maybe things would be different.

He wasn't in the trilogy. He was only in the first movie.

 You are right, of course, ... My bad. I've already edited my post with the change. His portrayal of Vito Corleone was just so masterful that he always comes to mind whenever I think of any of the Godfather movies.

Once a brilliant actor, but the last 30 years became a shadow of his former self with bullshit roles in films like Superman, Apocalypse Now, Christopher Columbus: The Discovery and The Island of Dr. Moreau.

Still, not even his non-acting in these films can erase the memory of his earlier work, and his signature role of Vito Corleone.

"The Godfather" was the first "grown-up" film I saw, when I was 14. Besides the horse head scene , I'll never forget crying when Vito Corleone collapsed in the garden.

Brando's passing was inevitable due to his lifestyle, not to mention the personal hardships he had to endure in his later years. That he lived to 80 is a feat onto itself; I always thought he would go a lot sooner than that. Still, he will always be Terry Malloy, Vito Corleone, and Jor-El to me. I remember how he creepy he was playing the neo-Nazi in "Roots: The Next Generation," one of his rare TV appearances, too. A fine actor with many memorable roles, even if he used cue cards!

Ironically, he shares the same birth/death months of one of his most famous characters, Vito Corleone (April & July respectively). Of course, that is if you ignore the birth month changing to December for Part II...

Right now I feel ashamed that of all the fantastic movies he has made, the only Marlon Brando film I own on DVD is the awful A Countess From Hong Kong. What can I say? I'm a Chaplin nut!

Must buy:

Julius Caesar

Superman

The Godfather

On the Waterfront

The Wild One

And maybe The Island of Doctor Moreau (where he played the island).

And only two days ago I saw Dry White Season, where he had an excellent mini part.

I admit I still haven't seen The Godfather - I guess I'll now get the chance to do that soon...

I also did. But the only scene in a movie that still chokes me up is when Hagen tells him Sonny dies. Such an amazing actor, such an amazing performance. Probably the most influencial actor ever, I don't think his later films are anythign to hold against him. He always did them cheerfully admitting they were crap and he was a sell out for doing them.

I personaly feel a great loss- The Godfather (my favorite film character and movie) has died again.
