I can see Ewan McGregor as Bond. And I have to ask: Keanu Reeves? How the hell did he even get on the poll?

We got Robin Williams, and while he has a cool last name, he's a tad too old for the role. If he were Robbie Williams' age, though...

From an opinion poll held in Canada it could be concluded that most Canadians wanted Keanu Reeves for the role.

I just lost a lot of respect for most Canadians.

Isn't it time they killed the Bond series? I mean it is getting kind of tired already.

Yeah! [John Book]Enough is enough![/John Book]

Talk about tired. :)

It is tired if you will admit it or not.

20+ films and not one original idea introduced since the first one.

Now that is what I call tired.

Have you actually seen the movies? Because the first one is one of the worst and least remarkable in the series.

I'm starting to wonder if you've actually seen the movies, making a comment like that.

Yes, I have several times each. And again a couple of weeks ago, where I noticed once again how fantastic Goldfinger and From Russia With Love are, and how unconvincing and not very interesting Dr. No is. And, yes, how unimpressive The Man With The Golden Gun really is (I just love Christopher Lee). And how much I love Elliot Carver. And how much I hate Jaws. And that Michael Lonsdale plays Drax.

From Russia With Love is a favorite, but it's also a sentimental favorite. A lot of good memories revolving that movie. But Goldfinger is almost as great in my eyes (obviously).

Dr. No? The most unremarkable Bond movie? Ummmm yeah well that might be true if you want to have a totally brainless popcorn film with Bond skying down a mountain with bullets flying all over the place and the explosion machine goin in full effect.

Some of us like Bond movie to have a working brain cell. :music:

Dr No was more experimental than any of the other films. Literally they were experimenting with the character, with the challenge of bringing the book series to the screen, etc. The series hadn't hit it's stride yet, but that's one of the wonderful things about Dr No, it isn't so formulaic. James Bond isn't so much an action hero as a spy, which is something lacking in many of the later films. It's cool to see him without gadgets trying to evade baddies by hiding underwater and breathing through a reed. The first appearnance of Bond at the casino is classic. Ursula Andress walking out of the sea singing Underneath the Mango Tree. The stirring musical score, the spider in the bed, the shooting of the evil geologist ("You've had your six"), Dr No desperately clutching at the scaffold with his slippery metal hands at the end. Aaaaah. It may not be my favourite of the series (That honour goes to The Spy Who Loved Me, You Only Live Twice, and From Russia With Love equally) but it is more like a genuine spy-caper than many of the action-based films that followed. It's a great start to the series. I LIKE IT!

Now my LEAST favourite in the series was the last one, Die Another Day. After an exciting and very unusual opening it just deterierated into the most horribly formulaic film in the series. It didn't have any likable characters or a heart. I was left completely stunned by how completely unmoved I was. I love the Bond films! I'm sure they'll get back on track.

Exactly!

It's difficult for any movie to have a legendary moment, and Dr. No manages to have two of them!

It's a total classic, from start to finish, and a pioneering film.

I do like Goldeneye. The tank/ car chase has some great moments and there are some really memorable lines.

I have always wondered if there was a picture of all the Bonds together. Surely they must have Bond reunions or something.

I'd choose Bale.

I've never been the biggest Bond fan, though I think I've seen all of them at one time or another, except for the latest one. Bond started losing the plot for me when Roger Moore escaped via Union Jack parachute; "Hey guys! Guess what foreign intelligence agency I work for!!!"

Still, the early ones are great, and I quite like Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies.

Poor Lazenby.

It would seem that Brosnan and Connery must not get along or something. I would love to see eveyone get together. Is there not potential for a TV featurette at least?

I'd still go with Russdel Crowe. Sure it sounds crazy, but the guy is such a damn good actor he can morph into practically any kind of role he wants to.

Either him or Christian Bale who is another fine actor.

Yes, I'm sorry that I suggested Allen as the ultimate James Bond. I thought it was a sealed deal. A win-win situation. It surprises me that there's such a strong opposition.

Watching Goldeneye again recently, I was reminded of how different Bonds fit their eras. Sean Connery defined the franchise, but I can't imagine his laid back acting style working as well for the later films.

Brosnan actually manages to come across believable as a post Cold-War secret agent while maintaining an element of the British flair. His shrewd intensity actually works well in today's cinematic style. I think he has been just what the franchise needed at this point.

Is this old news?

Pierce might reconsider:

"In 2004, Quentin Tarantino went to EON Productions in an attempt to gain the rights of Casino Royale so that he could do a remake with Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. In the remake, Tarantino has stated that it would take place after On Her Majesty's Secret Service and the death of James Bond's wife, Tracy."

Actually I think Dalton was a good bond, more real, but I would go with CLive Owen or Hugh Jackman.

And shouldn't this be in Other Topics? It has nothing to do with Williams or film music even......

Movie discussions are certainly allowed here.

Kind of depressing about Pierce not doing Bond anymore and that he had to go out with Die Another Day.

why not just quit while they are way behind, the last bond film I saw was terrible, give a rest

Because the franchise always had a remarkable way of recovering after a failure.

I'm surprised nobody suggested Christian Bale would make a good Bond.

As you can see in the poll 7 people now voted for Bale. I also think he could be a realistic modern Bond, although he doesn't have much of an English gentleman. He would be great though for a more action-movie like style like the past few Bond movies, so I think he could be a good successor to Brosnan.

But as I said I didn't like him saying:

'I suppose there are actually a number of character traits that are similar between Bond and Patrick Bateman,' drawls Bale, 'a complete lack of remorse in killing people, both are utter misogynists.'
