There's been a resurgence of the epic film in Hollywodd which has produced some epic scores. Which one is your favorite? I'm going with Yared's Troy. It's big, has variety in themes, and is plain fun to listen to.

I liked Gladiator a lot, but while the movie may be epic in nature, I don't think that the score is.

TPM, the score was more epic than the movie.

Troy, haven't heard either one.

LOTR trilogy, is as close as we are going to get. Both the movies and scores where epic.

Last Samurai, haven't heard this either. But being Zimmer, probably not too epic.

What does Epic mean anyway?

Yeah I gues but I had to include one John Williams score....I wish I could include NIXON or I guess I could have included Harry Potter but that's not really an epic....or Far and Away. That was an epic film. Maybe my next poll will be for the '90's. More nominees that way.

How is Harry Potter less epic than LOTR?

I'd consider it more epic than AOTC as well.

I'd say it is.

I haven't heard enough of Yared's Troy to rate it, I don't know Zimmer's Samurai, and except for AOTC, the other scores in the list suck.

Marian - who picked the Shore. :)

I would gladly remove these titles from my collection, even if they were given to me as a present. However, for collector's sake, I'll keep the Williams.

Gladiator had it's moments. I especially liked what Gerrard did.

Sorry, overlooked Yared's Troy as a candidate.

I hereby name Troy by Yared the epic score since the year 2000.

Lord of the Rings

Troy (Yared)

Last Samurai

Gladiator

Attack of The Clones

Troy (Horner)

That's how I'd rate them. And I really like the top four.

I personally do not think williams would have been able to really clinch it the way Shore did, his music is a 100% match to the films.

I think he could've, but I'm fine with Shore doing it and us having the 6 JW scores that would've been impossible had he really delved into the LoTR realm.

No disrespect to Shore, but I think Williams would have written fewer whole notes. After a while, it just turns me off. Mind you, Shore did get more contrapuntal for Return of the King.

I like Shore's music, especially parts of the first score, but I don't think it's the brilliant masterpiece in film score history that it's been made out to be.

Shore's Lord of the Rings score is odd. Some parts of it, such as "Forth Eorlingas" are incredible, while others are terrible. For example, the music that underscores Aragorn's conversation with Elrond in the Rohirrim camp. That is dull, dull music. (Mind you, this is before Elrond reveals Anduril, at which point some awesome music kicks in. Also, I don't think it's on the CD.)

That's true, but that isn't necessarily a compliment. I think he matched it a bit too much. The two, film and music, were giving us the same information. And I also agree with Fiery Angel.

I can't vote for any of these, I dislike them all. You should have included the score from King Arthur which is a pretty epic film. I wouldn't have voted for that either though. Horrible score. I'm so glad I have the 2-disk set of Rosza's Ben Hur. Aaah, the good old days when an epic score really was epic!

Agreed, I was surprised at how dull and uninspired Zimmer's score was. Not that there was a whole lot to be inspired by from that film.
