Kids Movie. Kids Music???

Does a "Kids" movie mean it's also got "kids" music. If not how does it compare with film music?

I don't think that just because it is a kids movie that it will have kids music. In a lot of cases I also think that the music from kids films rates extremely well with the rest of the movie music world. I am sure that almost everyone has some music from a kids film in their collection, especially the likes of The Lion King.

My collection of kids film music includeds Toy Story 1 & 2, A Bugs Life Dinosaur, Shrek, Chicken Run and a few others that escape me at the moment.

What do you think of "Kids" music? And what is in your collection?

I agree with you totally. I have quite a few "kids" scores, and I would consider them for the most part to be very good. I could never consider Dinosaur, The Land Before Time or Balto (just 3 examples among many others) to be "kids music".

My collection includes:

The Secret of Nimh, Antz, Sinbad, An American Tail 1 & 2, Balto, The Land Before Time, Pagemaster, We're Back!, Atlantis, Dinosaur, The Iron Giant.

Anyone who tells you a kids movie always comes with kiddie music is a fool.

Always remember that.

You've already named excellent examples of great music to "kids" films, and I'd like to add Griegson-Williams' Sinbad and Williams' E.T. to it.

I know. My post was a bit unclear.

I have heard people lable E.T. as a kids film, which in itself is ignorant, and I have had the same people see denounce the score as "kids music", even after hearing part of the score itself.

I guess some people watch, but don't see, and listen but don't hear.

- Marc, who knows perfectly well E.T. is not just a kiddie movie.

But what is a kids score anyway? When someone talks about kids music they're probably talking about those crappy pop songs aimed at 4-year-olds, without knowing they actually is something like a score. Once again, it appears a lot of people wouldn't know a score if it hit them in the face, and think that the only soundtracks there are contain actual songs. Tut tut.

Oh well. Blah blah blah, nag nag nag.

- Marc, who thinks "bands" aimed at toddlers are evil (K3 anyone? *shudder*).

(K3 anyone? *shudder*).

You-know-who should never be named on this message board again. They are a disgrace to their country. And one of them to Samson en Gert as well.

Kids music = music that kids listen to. Unless there is a sudden increase in soundtrack (not being "music inspired from the movie") popularity, I doubt they will ever fall in that category.

Kids music = music that kids listen to.

Correction: Kids music = music that the media forces upon kids to listen to.

Unspoiled kids are more open to any genre/style of music than the average adult who, once "shaped", is usually very narrow-minded and even downright stubborn.

You attended 2 concerts in Boston together just a few months ago, and you called me.

Remember?

This is a picture of her:

I have never met the person pictured above.

My niece isn't 2 yet and she lovees Buckbeak's Flight...not sure if it's music to dance to but she shows signs of good taste. Then again, she also likes to listen to Barney non-stop.

Get 'em while they're young. That's a budding Williams fan you've got there. :P

Cheers John.

I think I've done a pretty decent job of making the whole family more aware of music in films. Everyone now notes who is the composer on films and they come back to me with questions like "Do you know who did the music for .....?" or "Have you ever heard of .....?".

And at the very least they know who John, Jerry & Elmer are....along with Max, Victor & Miklos.

Then again, maybe they're just humouring me.
