AC1 3,565
I believe that E.T. is not only a superior film, but a superior score, both subjectively and objectively Luke.Hook is a terrible film, especially by Spielberg standards, only saved from the bottom by A.I., and Always. The score isn't terrible, its just overrated. It's not a matter of believing. E.T. is, without any question, a much better movie than Hook and so is its score. Remember Joe, there are always a few on this planet who think Battlefield Earth is a great movie, or who think Alien Resurrection is the best in the series. I'm sure that if you search long enough you'll even find people who say piss tastes better than wine (or beer). It's crazy but that's just the way it is.----------------Alex Cremers
HPFAN_2 0
I think that many people would agree, but we're talking about E.T., not HPWell i think HP is better than E.T.
jamesie 1
Yeah Hook isn't a terrible film though. There's nothing terrible about it. If you have very little imagination or didn't like the original and didn't wonder what ever happened to Peter Pan later in life then you would think Hook is terrible. Perhaps those who don't have kids don't like it as well too.
John Crichton 4
There is no doubt that ET is the better movie. However, I prefer Hook's score by far. ET has wonderful moments that are among Williams' best, most of them bookending at the start and finish. Most of the middle is just too dull IMO. When considered with all of Williams' body of work and my tastes for his music, ET doesn't make my top 10, though it would easily be in a top 15. Hook is consitently great start to finish, loaded with great themes and wonderful moments. Easily one of the best ever.

Rogue_Leader 2
Hook is a terrible film on that I agree with Joe.However, I also feel E.T. is a weak film. Not nearly as bad as Hook mind you, but immature and with overly gushing emotion. Less is more was CLEARLY not Spielberg's doctrine with the outpouring of emotion in this film. TO SAY THE BLOODY LEAST!
Morlock 9
Hook is a fine children's film. And you didn't even see all of it. And about E.T., I will use someone elses words: "Most movies are not for any one thing, of course. Some are to make us think, some to make us feel, some to take us away from our problems, some to help us examine them. What is enchanting about "E.T." is that, in some measure, it does all of those things. "
jamesie 1
I think they are close to even in their own ways. Hook is fun, imaginative, and cool: all kids and their parents love it. ET is just great. It's something everyone loves... It has its great points that everyone remembers. Also, I've asked some of my friends at school, Hook and ET are equally widely known and most like Hook better. These are highschoolers, mind you, and they all love Hook and like ET. As for adults, the ones with kids like Hook and like ET better. Very few think it's a terrible movie.
