I've been on a Star Trek score kick lately, and I was wondering what the favorites here are. For me it's a tough choice between II, VI, First Contact, and maybe Nemesis.

And before anyone asks about why TMP is not in the poll, here's why. Given previous comments I think it's very safe to assume that The Motion Picture is the consensus favorite ST score here (it's certainly mine), and I want to know what the next favorite is without TMP sucking up almost all the votes. :P

The Final Frontier for me. This is Goldsmith at his best and some of the best themes he's ever come up with. A score more worthy than the film itself. Although I don't think TFF is as bad as everyone says it is.

TFF the score is superb. The only reason for the movie to exist. Taking the little motif that he wrote for the Klingon scene at the start of TMP, changing the orchestration a little to make it more powerful, and making it a full blown Klingon theme that's his second best Trek theme behind the TMP main theme. Brilliant. bowdown

The real brilliance lies in subtly placing that theme in a Bruckner-type adagio.

Won't choose between Final Frontier, Undiscovered Country and Insurrection.

Marian - who thinks WOK is very very good, but still overrated. :)

Just one of the most brilliant pieces known to man.

I know that it gives Steef a tighty whitey tent just thinking about it.

I ended up voting for The Undiscovered Country, but it was a tough choice. I love every score up there except for The Search For Spock and The Voyage Home.

Say what you will about the quality of the movies, the Star Trek film franchise has done very well for itself in terms of quality of scores. Getting Goldsmith for half of them helped. :music:

Can I place a negative vote for rosenman's effort?

LOL

If there was a way to do that I would have. The only reason it's on the poll is completeness. And so we could endlessly mock anyone who voted for it. :music:

I get no one likes the First Contact score? I like it a lot and I prefer it even to Wrath of Khan, my second favorite of the listed. For a better presentation of Wrath of Khan ideas, though, I listen to Aliens.

I made a tough choice and went with Search for Spock, I know that overall it isn't as good as Wrath of Khan, but it has 3 tracks that I enjoy more than anything in Wrath of Khan. Klingon's, Bird of Prey Decloaks and Stealing the Enterprise, which underscored the absolute finest moment in all 10 films, what I like to call Kirk's Hymn, when Kirk tells the others that he and Dr. McCoy have to do this, the rest of you do not.

That single moment is Star Trek at its finest, nothing in any point of all the other films captures the essence of Star Trek better than that.

Now if you must pick the worst, everything points to Nemesis, which I know Neil, Stefan and many of you others do love. Enjoy.

Joe,

Nemesis is much better than you give it credit. I like it a whole lot, but it is third from the last. TVH and GEN are below it. But TVH is much much lower than GEN. I hate placing these scores in order because there is so much to like in all of them. It think that it is better to put these in a tier.

1st Tier:

TMP

TWoK

TFF

FC

2nd Tier:

TSFS

TUC

GEN

INS

NEM

3rd Tier:

TVH

I picked Insurrection because it seems like a much more personal score, yet is still action packed and energetic. However, I am never really good at deciding on these kinds of things. I like the last three, First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis. They are my personal favorites.
